May 7, 20214 yr Good gain for the LDs from the Tory party in Cambridge! @1390649194357084165 Greens gaining as well.
May 7, 20214 yr GREEN SURGE :cheeseblock: Bearing in mind a lot of these early results are from 2016, how much of these Tory gains can we actually put down to them swallowing up the old UKIP vote more than a BJ or vaccine bounce? If you compare the smaller number of results to those last elected in 2017, the Tories seem flat or even down a bit (which is when they were riding high in the polls pre-GE 2017).
May 7, 20214 yr @1390683578401443840 Blimey!! That's disastrous for Labour and much wider gap than the Survation poll suggested earlier in the week which had a massive Tory lead (63 / 37).
May 7, 20214 yr I'm presuming that it's just a bit of false promise from the Tory ranks, but goodness, if Labour lose London...
May 7, 20214 yr I'm presuming that it's just a bit of false promise from the Tory ranks, but goodness, if Labour lose London... Just can't see it. They were 1/64 to win it earlier.
May 7, 20214 yr Be shocking if Bailey wins London - BBC stating Khan on 39% and Bailey on 37% with Sian well behind for the greens in 3rd on 8%. But they say theres alot of uncounted votes left which 'should' see Labour pull ahead.
May 7, 20214 yr Note how we leftists are reacting to these CATASTROPHIC results. We want Starmer to move to the left and embrace popular social democratic policies IMMEDIATELY. He is AWFUL - LIKE I SAID ALL ALONG!!! - but now is not the time to switch leaders. Butcher "let the bodies pile high" Boris has to go.

I always don't think you can read too much in to councils, each area is different and you have no idea how good/ineffective councils have been in the past unless you are from the local area. I live in a Green/Lib Dem coalition and they're both absolutely useless and in the latter case, corrupt.
May 7, 20214 yr It would not. Corbyn won the argument. Starmer needs to be an alternative, not a red Tory, and offer hope.
May 7, 20214 yr It would not. Corbyn won the argument. Starmer needs to be an alternative, not a red Tory, and offer hope. Nationally Corbyn's leadership was a disaster. Lots of people really do not understand how loathed he was as a leader. It's really frustrating as too much of Labour don't have to agree with that fact, they just have to accept it was the case. Of course this is not all Corbyn's fault as it has been happening for a while, but it was a disaster. You can of course look at this from a completely rational angle and see SNP doing well, Tories doing well and Labour in Wales doing well. It's not like all 3 leaders have been on the TV every day for the past year. Can't understate this effect but it's clear Labour have a really tough job.

Actually, Corbyn was so popular people broke into spontaneous chants for him at concerts and football games... The British state had to reveal its face and PROVE to us that the game is rigged in favour of the neoliberal elite to sabotage his character and get rid. Remember, at Labour HQ they joked about shooting people like me, Corbyn supporters... How was he supposed to win an election under these conditions? He nearly did, though, before the British state had time to finish the job! Left wing policies are REQUIRED now. Leave all thr culture war BS and focus on an economic alternative. Labour was able to beat thw Tories after WW2 - the zenith of flag-waving patriotism following war, AND beat the ACTUAL Churchill, not yhe lazy Poundshop rip off - by doing just that.
May 7, 20214 yr Oh gosh, no no no, Labour are a mess so I couldn't put them as my first choice, but I didn't know it would be that close :(
May 7, 20214 yr Nice to see the greens make a decent amount of gains! In terms of overall, I thought the conservatives would be doing a lot better tbh. Still more votes to come in though. Also regarding labour, I think it's less of whether they go more left or right and more so being able to create a message that resonates with people. Even just hammering home a tag line or something for people to remember them by like "Building a better future for our children" or something. Either way I don't think Labour stood much of a chance in these elections regardless of who was in charge or what their policies etc are. The vaccine boost and brexit are still fresh on people's minds.
May 7, 20214 yr Yeh like For The Many!! I'd go for Believe In Britain. Take the Tories on in their fake, posh, Etonian nationalism with patriotism for a better country. Couls go for, Believe in better, Dare to believe. Something short, three words. For the many would work with a socialist in charge.
