30. Example - Kickstarts 236 pts

Writer - Elliot Gleave

Top points - Jason 24, dutch22 24, coi 22

From 2010, this was Example's second top 10 single. He has sadly not had any top 40 hits since 2014.

Example was great when he was first around, that and Watch The Sun Come Up are both still fab.

I thought MJ would do a lot better than that, that's comfortably one of my favourites of his!

I was doing unbelievably well in terms of how many I had left until the last two which were the highest ranked ones I've lost - still got 19 in.

Oh a few dropping out in a row that I voted for - 'The Hills', 'Voulez-Vous' and 'Sleeping With The Light On'! All amongst those respective artists' best ^_^

It's a pleasant surprise to me how well this song has done here. It was the first of four top 5 singles for the group from 1978 to 1981. A remixed version got to number 25 in 1999.

Writers - David Foster, Linda Thompson

The third top 5 hit for Whitney from the soundtrack to The Bodyguard. The song lives on with various divas performing it on talent shows to demonstrate their vocal range.

Written about Martin Luther King Jr, this was U2's first top 5 single. Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders sang backing vocals.

And so these are your 25 finalists. The song in 25th place scored 252 points so the last three songs were very close to making it to the final. One more point for U2 would not have been enough as they would have lost out on a tie-break. In chronological order:

You Can't Hurry Love

Mad World

Time After Time

What's Love Got To Do With It

Material Girl

Running Up That Hill

Alone

Blue Monday 1988

Buffalo Stance

Return To Innocence

Whatever

Virtual Insanity

One & One

Paranoid Android

No Scrubs

Hey Boy Hey Girl

Castles In The Sky

Who Do You Love Now?

Move Your Feet

Take Me Out

American Idiot

Doctor Pressure

S&M

Budapest

Physical

The second semi-final will start on Monday.

'Gimme More' missing out :cheer:

I think 16 of my 20 have got through (though unfortunately 2 of the ones that missed out were my +20 and +21), pretty good ~ 'September' was another one of the songs I cut out which would have got a couple of points from me if I'd done a top 25 but that wouldn't have got it through anyway.

A pity to lose U2 at the end, but that's still a great final 25 from an already strong semi! 19/25 got my votes this round and the other 6 wouldn't have been far behind.
