It looks like Olivia Rodrigo’s reign at Number 1 with Drivers License will come to an end this week, slipping to Number 16 today.

Streaming era

Don't Play holding up well is good to see! I'm interested how Anne-Marie does with her next release, I'm thinking a big part of this songs success was due to KSI.

KSI being on it of course doesn't hurt but with 'Come Over' also being a pretty decent sized hit (Rudimental's biggest in ages) I hope that's a sign that people are just receptive to her making this garage style music - would love if she can stick with that because they're near enough the only songs I actually enjoy from her oops

Well, duh, you made the rules

And we love it. I hope this girl will never return to the spotlight again... :teresa:

Do Radio 1, OCC media releases etc just ignore that ACR exists at all? Can they keep that up when you have a clearly super-artificial situation like we're about to see this Friday? Surely the audience deserve a bit of an explanation?

Shes only fell due to ACR. I'm not sure why you would wish a young female to have her career stop, weird energy to be giving off just because you don't like a song.

Oh definetly! I think it initially got so high due to KSI who has a huge fan base - I think it's also why Lighter did so well. Then obviously people are a fan of the overall sound and that's why it sticks around.

I do think she suits this sound, but then I couldn't see a whole album of this particular sound for her. We will see.

I know she fell due to ACR, it means that people got sick of this weak song, and I don't care if she's a newbie, she could have a 60-year career, I still wouldn't like her sound and image.

I do think that they should at least explain why the song has fallen so much and explain the acr rule briefly to the listeners so people who don’t know about it aren’t just confused

Given that she was only holding on by less than 1k this week, she may have fallen from #1 anyway (obviously not so dramatically) despite ACR but we won't know until Friday.

It’s too complicated to explain ACR every time a song has a big fall. Passive listeners won’t get it and chart followers already know about it.

Congrats to Burna Boy who just won his first Grammy

Well they didn't get sick of it, it's still #1 on Spotify etc

I just think it's weird and bad energy to give to wish for someone's career to stop just because you personally don't like one song you heard from them, that's all!

They announced her 15 place fall as if everyone had just stopped listening to it all together, It'd be interesting to know whether they are genuinely unaware of ACR or are just told not to mention it.

The latter I expect. It's probably too much of a hassle for them to explain it each time it happens when the casual audience won't particularly care anyway!

Usually they do completely ignore it in the shows and articles to try and make it all seem more natural but I do remember one occasion when the BBC article on the chart when Ed Sheeran's No. 6 Collaborations Project was released did talk about the rule and that was where both ACR and the artist cap caused I Don't Care to drop out of the chart from number two the previous week. That was described as a "bizarre disappearance" and they said it "also fell foul of an obscure chart rule, which penalises older songs that have passed their sales peak."

Obviously the OCC article didn't mention anything about I Don't Care disappearing though (or even when it re-entered at number three the week after!), the only times they have spoken about it otherwise would have been when the changes were announced I think.

If she comes up with a strong song next time I will be here for her, but if she keeps this boring image of a broken-hearted teenager, it's a big no for me. ;)

I was actually thinking this to myself, are Scott and Vick and Katie completely unaware of the acr rule or just not allowed to mention it

That's not very nice is it?

Some bad karma there.

The anti-Olivia and anti-Doja posts are tiresome.

I do think it's about time the OCC revise the ACR rule though, to make it a more gradual ratio implementation.

Regardless of if you like the song or not, it's truly ridiculous that Olivia is set to fall 1-16 after 9 weeks at #1, we've never had a drop quite that substantial from #1 due to ACR before. Surely some casual listeners will be scratching their heads whereas they perhaps wouldn't so much if it 'only' went 1-6.
