Why am I howling that she's gonna be performing this song on Graham Norton in front of Barack Obama?! Iconic.

That’s honestly a joke! Haha!

Another media storm coming....

I can't get over that 'the real her' is liking bad boys aka American hood boys and she's literally never dated anyone who wasn't the most basic generic British white dudes

i feel like people forget her last boyfriend (Sean Sagar) was who inspired this song and he's black but i think that creates more issues than anything

It's just all very superficial, dated and stereotypical. What is a bad boy? Based on the video it seems like she's implying in order to be a bad boy you just have to be black and from 'the hood'.

It's funny because her exes were literally the guy from Rixton and Chris Hughes so she can't really say she's always been into bad boys.

Never mind the fact that celebrating 'bad boys' (in a sense of them being criminals/aggressive/horrible people) in 2021 is just so cringey.

Oh and the fact that this was her debut single and had a year to come up with an amazing song to launch herself and all she wanted to say to express herself was 'I fancy bad boys teehee x'.

i think is the funniest part of the entire ordeal - all of this, ALL of this just for this song.

Taste is subjective, you may not like the song but others do and not all songs have to be meaningful. Lots of hits are not deep at all.

She can’t win with some of you, you’ll always find an issue. If she released a ballad some of you would say ‘ugh look at her pretending to be a victim’. Don’t like the song? Move on, it’s just a song. It’s not that deep if it’s not to your taste it’s not to your taste and that’s fair enough, I just don’t see the need to moan about her 24/7 (it quite clearly goes beyond the dislike for the song with some comments).

you're right - a song doesn't have to be meaningful to be good but Jesy shot herself in the foot by stating that the music she is now making is "authentically her" and then releasing Boyz, that implies that her true personality is juvenile, immature and frankly, anti-black and doesn't know anything outside of stereotypes.

it's objectively a bad song tbh - yeah she might have something better on the album but choosing to go with THIS as her debut is a mess, it just isn't good.

I do think your comments are quite extreme saying she is anti black, I think this is an example of people coming to this thread under the guise that they are allowed to give their opinion on the song when they are actually just being so mean spirited because of their personal opinions on Jesy. I do think it is quite ridiculous to say she is ‘anti-black’ but I’m not going into that, BOYZ is obviously a recreation of the original video so of course it’s going to have that 90s/Early 2000s style.

No point going in circles, some people like BOYZ and some don’t and that is fine. The only thing I do not accept is people just coming here just to be harsh on Jesy the person just for the fun of it and because they do not like her. You cannot respond to me saying you like her when you’re making accusations she’s basically racist and implying she’s stupid. Keep that outside the thread about her single. I’m pretty sure if this was an LM song people here would eat it up (talking about the song and not the video).

Please DM if anyone disagrees or wants to carry on this discussion as I do not want this thread derailed further, this thread should be about the song and not ‘opinions’ under the guise of being about the song but actually instead are just an opportunity to make hateful comments about the person.

I don't think they are tbh considering anti-black isn't always point blank racism, it's microaggressions and the reliance on stereotypes and a lack of education on the actual culture.

Remaking the video doesn't work for her, because she's a WHITE woman - that's the issue, I get that you like her/the song but really a lot of your arguments are not the hill to die on. The video was black culture from a black person's perspective, a white person cannot recreate it without it coming across as disrespectful because it is not her culture to imitate. Jesy has shown at this point that she really isn't that bright when it comes to culture issues.

If Little Mix released this the reception would be different, mainly because one of their member IS a black woman. But there's no point in speculating that, because they probably wouldn't release anything like this.

I remember recently watching one of those videos where they were talking about their first impressions of each other and how they were put in the band. In a clip, Jesy said when she heard Perrie sing, she thought it was a black woman/Perrie sounded like a black woman. Reading these comments just reminded me of how that made me cringe.

Slayer hun, I don't think these comments are hateful. They are opinions surrounding the music/music video. Even if they don't make sense to you, they are valid. A lot of us are actually learning from these.

I’m happy to agree to disagree on things, I just want to point out I definitely do think Jesy has done some things wrong but the hate is pretty intense and I do believe some people should cool it a little.

Anyway let’s try move on from this as I respect you all and get everyone is passionate with their opinions.

Yeah slayer i'm sorry but some of the posts are not it...it's nothing to do with Jesy "not being able to win". When she left the band there was a HUGE amount of goodwill from the fanbase but everything surrounding the single release has left a sour taste for very valid reasons.

Jesy was my favourite member for years up until she left, but this rollout has had me very disappointed in her ignorance.

I’ve absolutely been against the unnecessary hate towards Jesy during the campaign but I also think it’s important that people are able to air their viewes surrounding the whole situation, and I don’t think there are really any comments being hateful at the moment.

We’ll have to agree to disagree as it’s quite clear some people here did not want her to do well as soon as it was revealed she was making music. I stand by my point that she can’t win with certain people.

I respect your opinion and I’m not going to keep repeating what I have done in the past. I just think some people just come here literally just to moan about her instead of just commenting on the actual song, I do get how it can blur but a lot of the stuff is quite hateful and I do not want this to be an ‘I hate Jesy thread’ like the BOYZ one on PJ is, where it is infested with people mocking her and going out of their way to make fun of her and just be plain mean. I just think people need to be kinder, yes she could have done things different but people are going too far.
