That’s even lower than his collaboration album which is unexpected.

Well Adele deffo has the number 1 next week, really shocked by his streams
Extremely shocked by Ed’s numbers tbh. I suspect he did much better in the UK than anywhere else though, so let’s wait to see the official numbers.

Worse still, D-Block Europe are #27.

Ewan McVicar manages to climb despite 12 new entries above.

'Shivers' jumps to 636k which is a new daily peak by a significant margin (a 65% jump from yesterday, pretty much the same increase as 'I Don't Care' got on the day 'No.6 Collaborations Project' dropped although less than the post-album increases for 'Shape Of You' and 'Beautiful People'). Still a little over 80k behind Adele.

Beyond that these are certainly lower numbers than I was expecting, but then that was the case for the debuts of both of the singles as well to be fair and they both ended up holding up really well and peaking a while after release, not that I expect the album tracks to do the same but they might still hold up better than most album bombs do (especially as this album seems to be getting more positive reception than his last couple).

I think it just continues the pattern of his "low" debuts. The album might even increase in streams later on, who knows.

But it won't come even close to streaming records that's for sure.

It’s hard to know with a jump like that because ‘Shivers’ has been out for a while!
On the global chart, one of the album tracks debuted below both Shape of You and Perfect

Globally, = did 17 million less than No 6. Perhaps people just aren't interested right away. Maybe No 6 killed his momentum?

There just wasn’t any hype for this album. I think if this was his first new music since Divide then it would be a different story.

Pretty good opening day figures for =, all the songs Top 20 on Apple and Top 30 on Spotify after their first 24 hours. Overpass Graffiti I imagine will climb over the next few weeks the same way that Bad Habits and Shivers did, the rest of the album will probably have a fairly gentle fall over the course of a week or 2.
UK numbers are ok of course, but globally it did 18m less than Chromatica for example, which wasn't gigantic itself. So yea, pretty awful considering his streaming history.

I think it's probably been clear for a while that Divide was Ed's commercial peak and imperial phase. His numbers since have been more 'extremely impressive' than astronomical. You can't knock 15 weeks in a row at No.1 after all!

But numbers wise he's never going to come near Divide again - the market has massively contracted anyway and he will also inevitably see smaller returns as his fanbase gets older and new artists that are more relevant to the TikTok generation emerge for his crown.

No.6 may well have killed his momentum a little, although it's impossible to know, but it still spawned three No.1 hits and isn't far off triple platinum I believe - anyone else would kill for those numbers, especially with a collaborations album, but sure for Ed it paled in comparison to his earlier achievements. Afterglow further suggested his peak was over - not a particularly commercial track and who else could take a song like that to No.2, but in 2017 it probably would have been a big No.1 regardless.

He's still huge, the numbers and domination are still impressive, and the album will have a strong opening sale and good longevity, probably selling over a million by this time next year, but he's no longer quite as untouchable a force as four years ago.

Love the surge in interest for this since it made the Top 40 officially
