November 27, 20213 yr Yeh I was trying to think in my head how they were going to release to stand a chance of Xmas number one and most Xmas songs are just released now in November to build up. But I guess we are talking about Ed here so release week on the first weekend in December is perfect and he could be number one through December potentially.
November 27, 20213 yr I think his biggest chances are if he has signed CDs, average streams + 30,000 signed CDs does the trick any week
November 27, 20213 yr Yep and I think Elton would want another no.1 to his name so expect vats of signed CD singles. At least one week of a no.1 for this.
November 27, 20213 yr Timing seems perfect to me. Will get the full month to capitalise on Christmas interest. Campaigning against Ladbaby/charity was never going to end well so this way they have a shot at #1 before Christmas and the song will be established enough by then to have some legs after the Xmas Eve chart. Also means a whole month or potentially strong sales compared to a couple of weeks.

Ya I think the same,it will chart longer and get better sales this way plus I'm sure they ideally they will be hoping it will chart in the years ahead. It would be great to see Eltion get 2 number 1s this year aswell. Shows how varied success with singles can be as the the other singles from elton this year didnt even manage top 100
November 28, 20213 yr Author Ya I think the same,it will chart longer and get better sales this way plus I'm sure they ideally they will be hoping it will chart in the years ahead. It would be great to see Eltion get 2 number 1s this year aswell. Shows how varied success with singles can be as the the other singles from elton this year didnt even manage top 100 Because Dua Lipa & Ed Sheeran are the biggest artists he's collaborated this year... usually Elton singles wouldn't trouble the top 100 anyway.
November 29, 20213 yr All proceeds from this are going to the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation for this Christmas period.
November 29, 20213 yr Ooh another charity one… could have given lad baby a run for it’s money then… maybe still if streaming makes the bulk of sales.
November 29, 20213 yr Signed 99p singles have arrived - https://store.edsheeran.com/uk/merry-christ...tsubid=28967825
November 29, 20213 yr Seems it is Ed taking the lead billing on this single so presumably 'Bad Habits' coming to be starred out of the chart for a few weeks.
December 1, 20213 yr As it's a stand alone release it should really give the CD single a large sales boost.
December 2, 20213 yr Its CD sales will probably be high because of it being a standalone release. (my entirely original observation)
December 2, 20213 yr With it being a stand alone release on CD single i.e. not previously available on an album by Ed or Elton, it really could stand to sell a very high number of copies!
December 2, 20213 yr I thinking this will do quite well. Where do people think it'll debut next week?
December 2, 20213 yr Because Dua Lipa & Ed Sheeran are the biggest artists he's collaborated this year... usually Elton singles wouldn't trouble the top 100 anyway. Both Ed and Dua have featured on tracks for other artists that haven’t taken the charts by storm, so I don’t think the success of the singles can be put down entirely to the other artists. Although not a singles artist anymore, Elton is as established a name in music as you can get so seeing his name with those artists only makes it more likely people will give the song a listen. Looking forward to seeing how much this can sell, potentially biggest weekly physical sales of the year?
