Sprinting 21-1 following news of his death, this is the 2nd Lennon chart topper to exit leaving him with one entry left.

Kitsch, camp and cheesy but its stature has grown (slightly) with the passing of time.

How can this 80s classic be so low?

Almost voted for Fame

Used to love it as a kid, both the show and the song

but kinda sounds so dated now

I've Never Been To Me is very MOR but a nice enough song anyway. Fame is a bit overrated but fun enough.

What’s all this :gino: mean?

I have no idea. The 80s #1 song title that is almost that name hasn't appeared yet on our countdown, which I am happy about as it is a great tune!

Was the Lennon song at 21 at the time before his untimely death based on popularity of his comeback?

Shock ‘Fame’ had so few votes!

Think it’s based on this video -

It had got as far as number 8 a couple of weeks before that and then dropped down to 21.

I've Never Been To Me is the biggest loss for me so far, definitely kitsch and cheesy but a lovely if melodramatic little song (that fits more with the 70s when it was first recorded than the 80s). No doubt Fame just missed out for a lot of people, it's a great song.

Glad Starting Over got a vote from someone else - I was half expecting my 1 to be its only point when Woman crashed out with 0! It’s far better than that though.

I’ve Never Been To Me is one of a few that I really got into when doing my research, and I thought it wouldn’t get that many points.

Fame is great but with limited votes to give it’s understandable that show tunes tend to get left out.

Fame so low?

Surprised.

Didn't ever enjoy the movie... but the song is full of 80s boppery!!

Ah I see thanks Rollo!

My notes from that week "Twas the week before Christmas and the charts are anything but quite! The destination of the festive No 1 spot seems to have been decided by the events in New York last Monday and by Mark Chapman who of course shot John Lennon dead, an event which is solely responsible for the turn around of "(Just Like) Starting Over" which catapults from 21-1 this week. The song has thus far had the following run 30-20-13-8-10-21 and was heading out of the top 30 based on Monday's sales by all indications but as news broke on Tuesday Morning the single flew off the shelves and records a sale of 244,000 copies, that's the biggest weekly tally of the year and more than double's its total sales which now stand at 423,000 and with a bumper week next week could sail into the top 10 for the year- a fitting tribute. With shops ordering in some regular festive favourites John Lennon also features on the No 45 track "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)" with his wife Yoko as this was already available in small qualities but which is being given a full release this week and could see another massive leap next week"
