From the film “American Gigolo” this is Blondie’s second No 1 to leave the rate and is also the third most popular chart topper of 1980. Their last appearance was at No 121 so this is substantially more popular.

These early 80s gems  did a Blondie discography deep dive last year based on the strength of their singles and really fell in love with 'Parallel Lines' and 'Eat To The Beat' especially. 'Call Me' is a huge-sounding song and had even more impressive success in the U.S. as the Y/E #1 of 1980.

'Ghost Town' is foreboding and captivating, really standout chart topper. It was an eerie one to listen to during lockdown with those lyrics!

Oh hell no, Ghost Town should be top 10! :arrr: A classic song with some of the best production on any number 1 and lyrics that are still extremely relevant ('Government leaving the youth on the shelf', some things never change :'()

Well colour me impressed that Ghost Town is so high, I didn't realise so many others liked it! Call Me is great too - never would have predicted Blondie and The Pet Shop Boys would have a third of the top 15 between them!
Ghost Town major classic alert, sums up my life when I was on the dole. Call Me, Giorgio Moroder classic alert, though not quite in the same league as I Feel Love or t'other remaining Blondie chart-topper of 1980.
Hurrah! Finally that ghost out! :P
Can’t believe I only have ‘Ghost Town’ 9 points, would be my top 5 if I don’t this again, what was I thinking?

8 voters placed this in their top 10 as “Atomic” narrowly pips “Call Me” as our favourite Blondie 80s No 1 and the second most popular of 1980.

The ultimate 80s power ballad? Some would say so and this is the second favourite chart topper of 1983. It equals our current rate record of 17 voters as well.

Love Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Such an epic 80s classic.

I'm glad it's scored as high as it has.

Total Eclipse Of The Heart is brill but I was expecting to see it soon.

I was really hoping Atomic would be Top 10 after Call Me made #15 as I think it is the more timeless of the two (though I absolutely love both).

I can also tell you that three more voters will lose their 30 pointer before the top 10.

Love both of these the Bonnie Tyler performance when at No1 on TOTP is a classic wind blowing her hair and all 😁!

1983 just had classic song after song at the top spot, all culturally engrained by everyone today!

Atomic wasn't include in my top 30 Blondie songs, but it's still good enough in voting for UK # 1 hits.

"Total Eclipse Of The Heart" was # 1 in Ireland, when I was born.

Call Me is good, Atomic is better imo though, rather epic with the big chorus! Total Eclipse of The Heart is good too.

'Atomic' is glorious! I was slower to fully appreciate that one, compared to the likes of 'Heart of Glass' and 'Call Me', but when it hit - it hit in a huge way.

I like 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' as a song (the Glee version is one of their best covers for me) but I really don't like Bonnie's vocals, so find it hard to listen to the original

“Atomic” - and with that, there goes my entire Top 3!

01 David Bowie “Ashes To Ashes”

02 The Specials “Ghost Town”

03 Blondie “Atomic”

2 huge classics there, disappointed Atomic isn't top 10 ahead of 2 or 3 of the rivals left in which are a tad over-rated now. Splitting hairs, obv.... Total Eclipse, had Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman not had a temporary tiff (for about 20 years) might well have ended up as a Meat Loaf song, I speculate. I think Bonnie would have been hard to beat though in terms of gritty female power vocals at the time..
not crazy about those vocals, bit too much
