Time for us to whittle the list down to 32 songs vying to be the next honorary rejects champion :jump: thanks to those of you who submitted votes, we had 16 votes for group 1 and 13 for group 2 which seems like a decent number for what is ultimately a rather low stakes round ~

 

Our first two qualifiers from group 1, as decided by random.org, are...

Caerfyrddia 136 // Fionn - Let Me Go

 

Swift justice for the wonderful Finnegan Tui after being one of the four songs denied a place in its original final in the one contest where 19th/20th wasn't enough, and the legacy of Caerfyrddia continues for now despite them having now left us again.

 

 

 

And our first two qualifiers from group 2, as decided by a very intentional and calculated process also random.org, are...

In go Freestylers of a couple of UK top 40 hits 84 years ago fame, and a short but sweet iconic sax instrumental with an equally iconic video.

Eastovka get their first taste of making it past the opening round of a contest with a bit of justice for their second hardstyle entry (and obligatory ghost representation), while the also now MIA Holland-Oats are also through with another dance track.

BJSC perennials YONAKA are through to a second round in which they will also be appearing with another song representing Kylienips, and the ghost representation continues with a floorfiller from Yehesi.

Thank you, you're all too kind, pleased to see Ichiko's dream of justice alive for now though of course expecting she'll be out in the next round. Contrasting her very calm and pretty song we also have a high octane track from Wholune, both taken from the first contest of the year.

K-Pop heavyweights Girls' Generation make it through, as does a cover of an old Kim Wilde track.

Aquafina 135 // PAWSA - The Groovy Cat

 

A post-punk adjacent (?) tune from Cumulonimbia makes it through, alongside the iconic Pink Panther sampling cut from Aquafina's techno phase.

Danæviia 134 // ATTLAS and Colleen D'Agostino - Feels Like

 

Legendary meme song/screaming cowboy video 'Big Enough' makes the cut for N DNTN as does the first of two near misses from Danæviia with the chill ATTLAS.

 

 

woo for Eastovka finally getting a qualifier of sorts. In Private and Deadlock were absolute essentials here too.

A much more mellow pair as Terra Avium join myself and Jadakissnia in achieving justice for indie folk (with their EP masquerading as a single song) while Fljótavík are through with a folksy cut of their own.

Altyr Muunilinst 137 // Julie Bergan - We're Coming Up

 

Kathaldazia's techno banger which has proven to be all too relevant of late is through, plus another one of the songs which DNQed despite placing top 20 in its original semi-final this time from Altyr Muunilinst.

Jupiterdonia 137 // Artino and Ruth Royall - Never Let Me Go

 

Our sample of group 2 voters say yes to 10 minute songs as Skall's Kate Bush sampling opus is through, while Jupiterdonia's drum n bass track which was only here as a wildcard manages to survive the culling as well.

 

 

ooh yay for Morenita joining Feels Like for me. still not quite sure myself which of those to expect to have done better.

Former winning artist Klangkarussell's surprise DNQ followup is through (this time not suffering from the 21st place curse), as well as another chill electronic offering from Rolloland which makes it 3/4 of the 19th & 20th placers from BJSC 137 making it through to the second round of TBO.

Japanese superstars YOASOBI are safely through, and we finish off with another fairly lengthy electronic track from Utopia.
