The final round of the Chart Forum Quiz Season 5 is here! Welcome to:

POINTLESS

Pointless_barnstar.png

As usual, the rules of this Pointless game are: the players answer each question with what they think the least popular response will be. Points are allocated the same way as in Family Fortunes (e.g. if an answer is shared by 6 players, they each score 5 points each for that question), but here it's the player with the fewest points at the end that wins (so the best answer to a question - a Pointless answer - is one that no other player answered).

The usual catch is that an incorrect answer is penalised by giving the answerer the maximum possible score for that question, i.e. one less than the number of players (so if there are 31 players, an incorrect answer would be given 30 points for that question). I’ve decided that this is a little too harsh, so in this quiz an incorrect answer will score half that amount (e.g. 15 points if there are 31 players).

As an added twist, there are bonus points available for Questions 5 and 10, depending on your answer as described below. These points will be deducted from your score after points have been given in the usual way, for example an answer which 6 players chose, but which carries -1.5 bonus points, would score 3.5 points (that's 5 minus 1.5) for each of those 6 players.

Q1. Studio album which has spent at least 300 weeks in the album chart

Q2. Album with at least one week during 2020 or 2021 at #1 which came after its chart debut week

Q3. Single which peaked at least 10 years after its Top 40 debut

Q4. Top 10 single which contains "Christmas" in the title and has NOT been in the Top 40 from 2005 onwards

Q5. Artist/group with at least 3 Top 10 singles in 2021. BONUS: -0.3 points for each Top 10 single

Q6. Top 30 single from 2005 onwards by an artist/group who has won Eurovision

Q7. Top 20 single where the word "breakfast" appears in the lyrics

Q8. Top 20 single where the word "kitchen" appears in the lyrics

Q9. Single which spent at least 9 weeks in the Top 20 but didn’t reach the Top 10

Q10. Top 10 single for The Weeknd (where credited). BONUS: -0.3 points for a #10 peak up to -3.0 points for a #1 peak

Eligibility for correct answers will be determined by the Official UK Charts as published by the OCC up to and including the chart announced 24 December 2021 but will be unaffected be any changes as a result of the chart announced 31 December 2021. The charts announced 1 January to 24 December 2021 inclusive are counted as 2021; those announced 3 January to 25 December 2020 inclusive are counted as 2020.

For Q1, greatest hits and soundtrack albums do not count as studio albums. For Q2, the ‘Taylor’s Version’ albums are considered separate albums to the originals. For Q5 & Q6, the artist or group must be credited by the OCC.

To enter, please you could fill in the google form HERE otherwise PM'ing me is fine too.

If there are any queries on the questions, please comment below and I'll answer them when I can. The recommended deadline for entries is 3.59pm on Friday 31 December bearing in mind that day’s chart won’t affect the eligibility of any answers. In reality, I will accept entries until 11.59pm (UK time) on Sunday 2 January, with results the following day. Good luck!

Entered.

Chart quizzers, make sure you enter my Christmas Family Fortunes quiz in the Lounge if you haven't already done so. The closing date is Sunday.

For Q3 is it OK if it’s technically a re-issue of the single that peaked higher as long as it’s the same song?
Entered! Very glad I checked the questions again, somehow I'd managed to misread Q4 as 'Top 40 single released since 2005 which contains "Christmas" and hasn't charted in the last 10 years'

5 hours left until the ~recommended~ deadline - I'll keep this open until Sunday night, but please note any changes as a result of today's chart won't affect eligibility of any answers.

Just to reiterate, anything that has changed as a result of today's chart won't alter the status of any answers from incorrect to correct or vice versa! I'm referring especially to Q2, Q3 & Q9.

18 entries so far - keep them coming over the weekend, you have until 11.59pm on Sunday. Happy New Year!

One last chance to enter a quiz in this forum for a while! Closing at midday.
  • Author

Closed for entries with 22 players.

Despite my efforts, that's not enough for any of JulianT, LewisGT or chrissmith276 to have any chance of winning the series - although Julian could still tie for 1st place. Mango is still in with a shout to retain his title, and there are still podium places up for grabs for several of us - as well as the chance to win this quiz for all 22 entrants of course!

Results coming this afternoon / evening - I'll use this thread for these too.

OK let's have some:

POINTLESS RESULTS

Pointless_barnstar.png

In this edition each incorrect answer will score half the highest possible score – since we have 22 players, that’s 10.5 points rather than 21!

I’ll aim to have all the results posted today. To maximise the tension, as with my FF quiz in the last series, I’ll reveal the answers to Q1-Q10 in ascending order of the top scoring correct answer! :drama:

First answer on the way...

So what have I learnt from this question? That “kitchen” appears in a lot of song lyrics, and that it gets picked up by the spam filter even in PMs  Maybe I was too generous in opening this up to the whole Top 20, although the majority of these made the Top 10 anyway. Nevertheless, a good start for everyone with only 4 points picked up.

Imagine Dragons - Radioactive [#12, 2013, 7 wks] | Mack.

Another question with plenty of possible answers and most of us came up with a different one. An Ariana song is among those to score a point again, while Chris Rea’s Christmas song was an eligible Pointless answer for one week only – the week which counts for this quiz. Most of these were from the last decade including a Pointless for the longest runner from Idina Menzel, although Adele’s equally famously #11-peaking Set Fire To The Rain was left unused. We also have the first incorrect answer – despite Radioactive being the only non-Top 10 hit to spend over 100 weeks on the chart, only 7 of those were in the Top 20!
