The signs are that the chart is becoming more diverse again, of course in a large way thanks to TikTok.

But with the top ten featuring a piano ballad, indie-rock, a latino Disney song, Afropop and more besides, it's a lot less samey than two or three years back.

Definitely with guitar pop, grime x3 and house as well.

Biography

Dozens of British artists share Adele’s origins—BRIT School, MySpace, pop stardom—but it takes rare talent to have your voice declared timeless in your career’s first flush. Adele honed hers as a kid in her North London bedroom, imitating Etta James every night for an hour. But as soon as she made her televised debut in 2007 (on Later...With Jools Holland), all potential comparisons evaporated: This girl with the whopping hoop earrings and a pub landlady’s brashness had something unique. Heartbreak, indignation, and regret all found a natural home in her regal mezzo-soprano, the instrument that powered her 2008 debut album, 19, and took influence from the American South on 2011’s 21. Both of these albums broke records for breaking records, and made a subsequent operation on Adele’s vocal cords a matter of global import. She recovered immaculately—for proof, watch her comeback performance of “Rolling in the Deep” at the 2012 Grammys—and it took just one word to reintroduce her in 2015. “Hello,” she sang during an X Factor ad break, unveiling her world-conquering single and third album, 25, in the process. Like its predecessors, 25 upended 21st-century metrics and made Adele the first artist to earn the top-selling album of a calendar year three times. She’s now a mother, and her twenties are behind her. But if any voice were ever capable of carrying its owner into maturity, it’s hers. - Apple Music

I heard David Gray - Babylon on the radio today and I couldnt help thinking how it might have influenced the likes of this Sam Fender song in terms of the vocal style in it!

David Gray is the one that opened the door for all singer-songwriters, before him singer-songwriters didn't sell much

labels only started investing into singer-songwriters after White Ladder-s success

Boo Adele. Hopefully Lauren Spencer-Smith can knock Adele off next week and boo her label for being too greedy
I'm so surprised this has blown up in the way it has lmao, its really not that great in or out of the film. Surface Pressure deserves however!
I wish “What Else Can I Do?” was getting this kind of love </3

This has been a trend for a while, it's certainly a good thing though.

Doubt Gayle can get to #1 now with Fingers Crossed likely being Adele's biggest competition going forward now

kinda felt sorry for Gayle for a sec

wish the OCC were more strict about those resets and only granted it for proper current singles,

resetting Easy on Me is a bit of a joke when OMG has been added to R1 today

I thought Adele was popular here and surprised by the backlash. Record companies wouldn't be doing there jobs if they didn't ask for a reset and it's a genuine mega hit, been top of Spotify this week and hasn't been out that long. Not really into that Gayle track - it sounds too in your face, a bit of a copy of Cee Lo (thematically). Maybe if I heard more of her stuff I would appreciate it.
Anyone reckon they booked GAYLE for the show before Adele's manual reset was announced? :kink:

I think so, not good for her when she looked to be easily on course for #1 in the early mids.
