With Gayle having such a small sales lead Adele will easily be Number 1 by midweek and well ahead on Friday.

I’m not sure why Adele should catch up - I know Easy On Me has tended to do slightly better during the week than at weekends but Gayle has quite a significant Spotify lead combined now.

I wouldn't say significant. At most Gayle maybe has a 50-75k lead on spotify? Then there's the case of free streams vs paid streams. Adele is ahead on Amazon/Apple Music. Youtube they're about the same (although Adele might be slightly ahead with the NRJ live performance video + lyric video doing decent views too). iTunes Gayle is ahead, although it's the smallest of all the platforms for sales.

It might be really close between the two. Although "Easy On Me" will likely get an indirect boost from the release of the "Oh My God" video on Wednesday.

On Apple Gayle’s quite likely to be ahead combined though. Anyway I agree it will be close; I was more responding to the “Adele will easily overtake” comment.

The Weeknd cruising towards third UK Number 1 album with Dawn FM

Plus new entries from David Bowie and Gunna.

The Weeknd could secure his third UK Number 1 album this week, as Dawn FM cruises towards the top of the Official Albums Chart.

A semi-surprise drop last Friday, The Weeknd released Dawn FM - which features input from Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones and even Jim Carrey - is heading for a Number 1 debut. If successful, it will join previous chart-toppers Beauty Behind The Madness (2015) and After Hours (2020). Dawn FM would also be distinguished as the first album released in 2022 to reach Number 1.

Following what would have been his 75th birthday at the weekend, David Bowie is currently eyeing a Number 2 debut with the posthumous Toy (Toy Box), a stand-alone physical release of Bowie's scrapped 2000 album of the same name, including previously unseen photographs and new mixes. It will mark the late, great British superstar’s 35th UK Top 10 album.

Bowie could also have a further two albums land in the Top 40 this Friday; after being issued as a picture disc to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Hunky Dory could re-enter the Top 10 at Number 8, while greatest hits collection Legacy could rise to Number 17.

US rapper Gunna could score his second UK Top 10 album on Friday with third studio album DS4Ever, currently at Number 5, while Scottish alt-rock outfit Twin Atlantic could debut at Number 10 with their new album Transparency. Twin Atlantic will be the guests on this week’s episode (January 12th) of The Record Club in association with Bowers & Wilkins.

Outside the Top 10 midweek, several greatest hits could re-enter the UK Top 40. These include Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend (31), Elvis Presley’s The 50 Greatest Hits (35) and Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You - The Best Of (39).

And finally, The Beatles’ final album Let It Be could also break back into the Top 40 on Friday, currently tracking to jump seven places to Number 40..

These David Bowie releases are tiresome. They really have rinsed his music for every penny.

Toy box crazy £27

I really truly do not envy any David Bowie completionists lmao. Seems this latest release is just a separate release of one part of the boxset that charted at #24 last month.
The Motto down to #45 :( hopefully it can recover as the week goes on, especially considering there are 3 Gunna album tracks above it that are bound to fall a lot. Great to see Gayle still holding on at #1 but there can’t be much in it

Official Singles/Albums Chart Update Top 100

Full update in this post!

Aw at 'Take My Breath' already falling to #12, probably not coming for a new peak then. Hope 'Sacrifice' can still hold onto the top 10 at least, it was stable on Spotify today.

'edamame' finally showing up in the top 100, here for it being a belated hit of some description.

i think bruno could make #1 now especially if they start to generate a lead on spotify which i think could happen!

Gayle increasing on Adele!

I know Twin Atlantic aren't an 'A' list group, but that's a really disappointing start, under 2k sales is woeful. Sad to see Spector not in the top40, great band.
I hope GAYLE increases her lead from Adele, I hope Lauren and WDTAB can overtake Adele and also, thank god the Weeknd’s album has pushed BL out completely
