This week's episode is a Ball, the queens are split based on their premiere with the themes of animal print for the first preimiere and red, white and blue for the second premiere. There are 3 categories within each theme as per a usual Ball.

 

 

I'm excited to see who can slay a looks based challenge as well as performance, my eye is on DeJa as she's known as an excellent seamstress and makes a lot of, if not all, of her outfits.

I'm intrigued to see how last week's winners do!

This Ball was great, so many of them served, a really high standard!

 

Thoughts on each queen, soz for the essay x

 

Alyssa - she made THAT in 8 hours in the work room and was SAFE?? I was baffled, but not surprised, as she had virtually no screentime that episode apart from Jorgeous saying she knew her from watching her paegants. She's clearly a "filler" to them so they just brushed her under the carpet. I'm getting the least from her out of anyone in terms of personality but that sewn look was a home run!

 

Angeria - she looked undeniably flawless in all 3 looks, the first look let her down a little I feel but she just serves every time she's on that runway, so the top was deserved for sure.

 

Bosco - a little samey for me, but in a way that she knows what works for her, so it's not necessarily a bad thing yet, but it will be if we keep seeing it, there was nothing bad about any of her 3 looks!

 

Daya - I really like her style, I think she is differentiating herself from Crystal a bit more with it, I'm actually looking forward to seeing more of her runways but I wanted a little more from this tonight.

 

DeJa - excellently constructed, I didn't LOVE any of them and they didn't pop in that memorable way but she did well with all three categories.

 

Jasmine - she did pretty well, wasn't a huge fan of her first look but she slayed the other two.

 

Jorgeous - I was... baffled by her being in the top? No shade, she looked amazing, but it was a basic dress three times over, for my personal taste I just want a little more versatility and pop. The praise she got for that is giving me very "Valentina your smile is BEAUTIFUL". She can really sell the stage I'll give her that and I do really like her personality, I just think with the level of this Ball, her being in the top was a stretch.

 

June - There were so many little details missing, even in her first look which was good enough, the second was lowkey hideous and so garish plus that design look was just awful, a mess and so unflattering plus she did the complete opposite of selling it, you could tell she was defeated. I have no sympathy for "I can't sew" of a show that started over a decade ago and has 300 series a year, how do you now know you're going to have to sew when you go on?!

 

Kerri - she of course looks stunning, solid safes all round although the design look was iffy.

 

Kornbread - maybe I'm insane but I could lowkey argue her being bottom over Maddy? Her design look was ok but I really didn't like the first two, in a Ball of this standard she disappointed me hugely. She had that Silky problem where the construction of the looks is really unflattering to her body imo.

 

Lady Camden - biggest surprise of the night for me, I wasn't necessarily expecting a runway queen but I loved all three of her looks, especially the white one! I would have loved to see her in the top for those.

 

Maddy - she tried bless her, I thought the design look was really well put together, it was just basic and missing that wow factor, she had a story to sell it though and didn't just give up with it, I don't think any of her looks were outright terrible or anything but there was such a high standard and she was definitely at the bottom of the pack.

 

Orion - I was convinced that she was high and Jorgeous low when they called them out? :lol: The last two looks were a little interchangeable, but all of them looked great and I feel like I got to know who she was a little more through the cohesiveness of the three looks and I loved the last one as a tribute to her mum.

 

Willow - on balance of all 3 looks, absolutely the correct winner for me. All of them felt a little different and out of the box, but very Willow, I just love runways where there's a character behind it but the character doesn't take away from the detail or polish of the look. I also love that she didn't make the animal prints the main focus, if you look at all of the other animal print queens, even the ones who did good, none of them used the prints as creatively as Willow did in ways that you wouldn't expect.

 

I think since they split the Balls and said it was a "pair", there could have been a win from each category, then a high and low from each and a bottom 2 consisting of one queen from each. Interestingly I feel like while Willow was the clear winner, the second premiere girls by and large did better. I'd go:

 

WIN Willow, Lady Camden

High Alyssa, Angeria

Low Kornbread, maybe a hot take but Jorgeous

Bottom 2: June and Maddy

 

That lipsync was... a lipsync? June not only throwing her wig but most of her outfit, Maddy's go girl give us NOTHING :lol: That honestly could have been a double sashay.

 

"It's chocolate" *sad horns* absolutely SENT me though.

I wish for having 14 queens and 42 looks they would've at least critiqued 8 of the queens, maybe the top and bottom 2 from each ball.

However, probably the highest standard of Ball we've had since they started doing them early season, none of the looks were disasters and the likes of Maddy and June could've easily been safe in many other seasons. I think the 2nd group were overall better but had a category that is easier to make look better too

 

I LOVED Jasmine's last look, by far my favourite of the night and really should've put her in the top. Willow and Angeria deceived their spots there too though, maybe Alyssa could've been high as well or even Days who really showed she deserved to come back - Orion not so much (but I like that the didn't just send her home straight away again)

 

I agree about Jorgeous, overall she was actually my least fave of the 2nd group - she seemed to be put high cause she had fun on the stage? And yeah Kornbread didn't deliver in any of her 3 looks for me either

personally felt like daya should have been in the top ! poor june… she had a bit of a shocker of a week. imagine losing a kylie lipsync to a straight guy ☹️

So I tried to guess the top 3 before they announced. Thought it might be Alyssa, Bosco and Lady Camden! Was wrong :lol: Willow and Angeria were the next best and also worthy of doing well, Jorgeous was 50/50 as all three outfits were kinda glittery and skimpy. Wasn't showing much interesting in terms of design, to the point that I thought she was in the bottom and going to be read for being very simple.

 

Very happy with the eventual winner and the correct bottom two imo with the right person going. Maddy really needs to up her game and ability to connect on the stage if she wants to continue any further! Being straight doesn't mean dull!

Maddy feels like a cute enough queen for Instagram but not ready for this big stage, there's definitely some decent creativity and passion in her but she's like a deer in headlights, I agree there just isn't that connection on stage or the runway. She definitely only got cast because she's straight for a storyline but tbh there hasn't been a storyline, it's just been uncomfortable at times if anything not entertaining!

I would have put Lady Camden in the top for sure over Jorgeous. I felt like Willow's first look missed the category although I liked it. I would have had Kornbread in the bottom 3 over Orion as none of her looks particularly matched the theme and the constructed garment was sloppy. Orion's weren't bad in my view.

 

I don't really agree with the praise I've seen online for Alyssa and for Daya Betty. For me Alyssa performed about as well as Jan on her season's Ball, firmly high-safe looks. The final garment wasn't to my taste and she didn't hem it. I think my personal favourite looks this episode were Kerri! She switches up her look nicely. Jasmine could have been in the top as well with a better second look in my view, that ballet skirt did not read Evening Gown.

 

My bottom 3 looks of the night were Daya Betty's red resort, Maddy's hideous moon and stars evening gown, and June's constructed piece.

Lady Camden is the Scarlet/Ra'Jah S11 of this Ball, ROBBED. The more I look the more I can't believe she wasn't even high!

I agree although right now I don't like her that much. Her Britishness energy is really weird - almost reminiscent of an American playing at being British because they've lived there a few months.

omg daya’s red look was prob my fav. lady camden’s lil plastic twirly things are a cool concept but they weren’t really done in any kind of interesting way imo.

 

jasmine could also have been in the top for sure. i think had she removed the massive star from her final look it would have been a really beautiful high fashion moment. her second beige swan look was not it tho.

I feel like there's less to say about this season bc its not as messy as 13 yet!

 

One thing I will ask: why do yall not like Jasmine? Is it something from untucked? I don't watch that.

After having a bit of a break since Drag Race UK 3 ended. I watched Canada Series 2 which I enjoyed.

 

So decided to give Season 14 a go. I found 13 to be one of the worst series' if i'm honest and have been a bit fatigued with all the series' hence the break.

 

Anyway I watched the first 3 eps of this series last night and really enjoyed them! Its a shame Kornbread has to withdraw as alongside Angeria and couple of others would've been a front runner.

 

I liked the talent show being episodes 1 and 2 and is something which works - surprising actually its taken until now to have that on a normal series rather than All Stars. Some of the judging for them was a bit odd - particularly the lip syncs. However it was good to see what the Queens could do.

 

After episode 2, I kinda feel Angeria is a lock for the win, but we shall see.

 

I enjoyed the ball episode as well - although SO MANY looks! Willow was great and I'm glad Maddy stayed, even if her looks were wanting. June started badly and then didn't really improve, so wasn't too bothered she was first out.

 

Overall though this feels like its shaping to be a good series and lots of interesting queens. Angeria, Lady Camden, Willow and Bosco are my early faves - alongside Kornbread... but she is not long for this series.

 

Think i'll binge the rest this evening before catching up on UK vs the World

Such a good episode and my goodness - such high quality from almost all the queens with their constructed looks!

 

I thought Orion was going to be high :lol: Willow was the right winner for me, I LOVED her second look so much and the look she made was fab too. Angeria did so well too.

 

Glad June lost the lip sync. I thought she was going to demolish Maddy and surprised she didn't! I like Maddy's drag, but I feel she's a bit out of her depth compared to the other queens. She reminds me of Aiden Zhane on season 12 a bit.

 

I took a bit of a break from drag race after Season 13, but the recent AS7 season has got me back into it so going through season 14 now and it's already much better than season 13 for me so far! The cast of queens alone feels of much higher quality/fiercer competitors.
