June 22, 20223 yr Author So we've had Tears For Fears, Bonnie, Salt N Pepa, Lipps Inc, Stranglers, Queen as nominations to leave before the top 10......Let's see what I can do......
June 22, 20223 yr Author NO 12- 190 POINTS Funky Town Lipps Inc (Voter: JulianT- 7pts, Jade- 13pts, Chez Wombat- 18pts, Mack- 16pts, King Rollo- 13pts, Chartjack2- 14pts, Leonardo- 14pts, Jimwatts- 29pts, *Dandy- 8pts, Daan- 17pts, Bjork- 2pts, …Ready for it- 17pts, Torple- 22pts) (#2 for 2 weeks in June/July 1980 behind “Crying” by Don McLean) Here's 1980’s favourite No 2 according to you lot! Who’d a thought you’d all go for a bop! R5rjYNLn0PA
June 22, 20223 yr Author NO 11- 191 POINTS Holding Out For A Hero Bonnie Tyler (Voter: JackJones- 26pts, JulianT- 10pts, AaronTM- 21pts, Chez Wombat- 17pts, Chartjack2- 20pts, Leonardo- 29pts, West- 16pts, Gooddelta-10pts, Jester- 15pts, AH Gold-11pts, Torple- 16pts) (#2 for 3 weeks behind “Dancing In The Street” by Mick Jagger & David Bowie) So good they re-released it. “Total Eclipse” came 13th on the No 1 list so perhaps it isn’t too much of a surprise to see this just miss out on the top 10- the combination of Tyler and Steinman seemingly too good to ignore. It’s also the 3rd most popular No 2 of 1985. vA48rDXh1_4

June 22, 20223 yr Author and finally (because we all know that Popchartfreak cares really :D ) Voters league (position in brackets are as we entered the top 20) 1 (6) Popchartfreak 218pts 2 (4) Daan 204pts 3 (2) Colm 189pts 4 (7) Jade 174pts 5 (8) Jester 168pts 6 (5) *Dandy 167pts 7 (11) Torple 159pts 8 (9) King Rollo 151pts 9 (3) Chez Wombat 150pts 10 (1) Jimwatts 140pts 11 (18) Mack 138pts 12 (12) Bjork 131pts 13 (10) JulianT 125pts 14 (20) …Ready For it 114pts 15 (15) AaronTM 112pts 16 (17) West 111pts 17 (19) JackJones 111pts 18 (22) Gezza 100pts 19 (21) Jason 99pts 20 (13) Chartjack2 88pts 21 (23) AH Gold 86pts 22 (14) Leonardo 78pts 23 (16) Gooddelta 72pts 24 (24) Fiesta 30pts
June 22, 20223 yr Oh that's what 'Funkytown' is! Just listened to it. Yeah very recognisable and catchy. I must have just gone through the song titles and thought that was the only one I thought I didn't know well. :kink: Edited June 22, 20223 yr by Roba.
June 22, 20223 yr Funny I mentioned Shrek 2 in relation to 'Holding Out For A Hero' on the previous page as 'Funkytown' is featured in that movie too  what a tune. It took me way too long to realise that Lipps Inc. was a homophone for Lip Sync *_* now going forward... happy to still have a lot of points left in the top 10!
June 22, 20223 yr Well that ACR-esque 1-10 drop on the voters league says it all - I lost 5 songs from my top 8 in that section, leaving only one  I do like everything that's left though and gave points to 8 of them. I did think Funkytown would be for the chop but I'm delighted it's got got far and it's a fantastic ambassador for 1980 - part disco and part electropop, ahead of its time and timeless.
June 22, 20223 yr 2 of my lower pointers lost in that final chop, so I guess could have been worse. I do think 1980 wasn’t anywhere near as brilliant for #2s as it was for #1s but Funkytown really stands out as a forward looking nugget of brilliance - I should have given it more in retrospect. Poor Bonnie and her husky voice - it wasn’t her fault you know. Anyway power ballads don’t come much more rousing than that.
June 22, 20223 yr Aww I'd have liked to have seen those two in the top 10, both such fun tracks, but I can't argue with the quality of those remaining and still quite a few of my top pointers to come!
June 22, 20223 yr I think it's the first time I'm not bottom 5 in these Buzzjacks polls :o :P I have 4 songs left including my top 2. A bit surprised Golden Brown and Push It are top 10 tbh. The other 8 were totally predictable imo. Edited June 22, 20223 yr by Jason
June 22, 20223 yr and finally (because we all know that Popchartfreak cares really :D ) Voters league (position in brackets are as we entered the top 20) 1 (6) Popchartfreak 218pts 2 (4) Daan 204pts 3 (2) Colm 189pts 4 (7) Jade 174pts 5 (8) Jester 168pts 6 (5) *Dandy 167pts 7 (11) Torple 159pts 8 (9) King Rollo 151pts 9 (3) Chez Wombat 150pts 10 (1) Jimwatts 140pts 11 (18) Mack 138pts 12 (12) Bjork 131pts 13 (10) JulianT 125pts 14 (20) …Ready For it 114pts 15 (15) AaronTM 112pts 16 (17) West 111pts 17 (19) JackJones 111pts 18 (22) Gezza 100pts 19 (21) Jason 99pts 20 (13) Chartjack2 88pts 21 (23) AH Gold 86pts 22 (14) Leonardo 78pts 23 (16) Gooddelta 72pts 24 (24) Fiesta 30pts  i do care i do! Its the only chart based thing on bj i ever "win" 9 of my all time faves in the top 10 is a pretty good result which basically says i think that bj voters have pretty fabulous taste in classic pop music from the 80s. So have a huge pat on the back again everyone. :yahoo:
June 22, 20223 yr Pleasantly surprised to see Golden Brown doing so well. If i'd voted I think In The Air Tonight would have been my 30 pointer (perhaps one of the obvious choices but utterly timeless) so I guess i'm rooting for that now.
June 23, 20223 yr Author NO 10- 191 POINTS Push It Salt N Pepa (Voters: JackJones- 15pts, JulianT- 1pt, Fiesta- 9pts, AaronTM- 1pt, Chez Wombat- 12pts, Mack- 2pts, Leonardo- 26pts, Colm- 13pts, Jimwatts-22pts, *Dandy- 27pts, Daan- 28pts, Bjork- 27pts, …Ready for it- 8pts) (#2 for 3 weeks in July 1988 behind “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You” by Glenn Medeiros) Clearly 1988 won’t be providing us with our winner as this leaves the rate along with the year. It made the top 10 over Tyler as it got more voters. unr-mYqIfo8
June 23, 20223 yr Salt n Pepa vs Glenn Medeiros was almost an Ultravox vs Joe Dolce level injustice. Well done for 9/9 PCF! Think you managed that last time too - so predictable. :P I have only voted for 5/9 but they’re all 20+ so could yet have a brilliant or terrible number of points in the Top 5.
