April 26, 20223 yr The song that beat Amelia f***ing awful, so I wouldn't have minded seeing her keep that midweek #1.
April 26, 20223 yr Since its the OCC I'd say 'Please Please Me' by the Beatles or 19th Nervous Breakdown by the Rolling Stones, both of which reached no.1 on 2 or more of the charts available in the 60s but not the 'official' one. .
April 26, 20223 yr What were the final stats for that and American Life at 2? Edited April 26, 20223 yr by musicfan97
April 27, 20223 yr What were the final stats for that and American Life at 2? From memory, it was like 2k. 32k for Make Luv and 30k for American Life, so a pretty low sales week even for 2003.
April 27, 20223 yr If Rihanna had released "We Found Love" on a Sunday, "Moves Like Jagger" would’ve managed a week at #1
April 27, 20223 yr even better, if We Found Love hadn't been released at all, MLJ would have been #1 this "what if" scenarios are totally useless lol
April 27, 20223 yr Crazy For You - Madonna reached number 2 twice and is my fav ever song so needs a mention!
April 27, 20223 yr I remember how shocked I was when 'American Life' got pipped at the last minute! I wonder if its second week drop would have been quite so harsh, given #1 was a much bigger deal back then.
April 27, 20223 yr even better, if We Found Love hadn't been released at all, MLJ would have been #1 this "what if" scenarios are totally useless lol MLJ had the last laugh because it outsold every song that kept it off the top to become the second biggest selling single of 2011
April 27, 20223 yr Kungs' This Girl definitely, manipulated out by One Dance week after week. Edited April 27, 20223 yr by zenon
April 27, 20223 yr I would say "Wonderwall". Not the Oasis version though, the Mike Flowers Pops version. It looked like it was going to be Christmas number one that year and looked like it had the advantage by coming out that week whereas Michael Jackson had already been number one for 3 weeks. That turned out to be a disadvantage though because apparently many people were going into record shops and asking for the number one record to buy as a present for grandchildren etc. without really knowing what they were buying.
May 1, 20223 yr "Stop" by Spice Girls was robbed of #1. But for a post-album single, it did really well
May 4, 20223 yr If Lady Gaga's label had released Born This Way on a Sunday then it would have been have a surefire number 1 as this was her first comeback.
May 4, 20223 yr If Lady Gaga's label had released Born This Way on a Sunday then it would have been have a surefire number 1 as this was her first comeback. I have always been SO angry about this! What were they thinking?! Did the US tracking week start on a different day of the week? I guess they were after that big Hot 100 debut.
May 5, 20223 yr I found out that Emeli Sande's 'Heaven' got beaten to number 1 by Wretch 32 'Don't Go' in 2011. I think that Emeli Sande song was so much better and deserved to go to number 1. Who even remembers that Wretch 32 song? Edited April 11Apr 11 by montyj
May 5, 20223 yr I agree about Heaven being a lot better but it's hardly the biggest #1 robbery ever. Fans of D-Block Europe most likely remember the Wretch 32 song anyhow seeing as they did a version of it with him on their latest album. And going off Spotify/YouTube plays 'Heaven' is only barely the overall most streamed of the two.
May 5, 20223 yr ^ Yeah that's quite a bizarre suggestion for a song being robbed of #1! That's more of a subjective argument rather than an objective one. "Stop" by Spice Girls was robbed of #1. But for a post-album single, it did really well Post-album singles not doing well has really only been a thing since streaming. Yes pre-album singles always tend to be more successful for obvious reasons but there are plenty of examples of post-album singles going to #1 from the pre-streaming days. 'Stop' was just unlucky to come up against Run DMC.
