It was a Hollywood fabrication for movies and has no historical record to validate this. The salute was then picked up by... you guessed it - Benito Mussolini, from where the NSDAP took inspiration and gave it their own spin. The 'from the heart to the sun' salute IS a fascist salute except when used in Hollywood basically. Even the USA banned the Bellamy Salute as it was similar to the Nazi one.
