Is he just swapping benches then? He'll get more minutes at Chelsea but it's not as if they don't have other quality players to play in his position. Guess this means they won't be in for Raphinha as well then.
Tottenham have signed Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona. The deal is reported to have an option-to-buy clause included. Hopefully he'll get a bit more first-team action with Spurs!

Chelsea have completed the signing of centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli on a four-year deal.

The 31-year-old becomes the second signing of the Todd Beohly era, joining Raheem Sterling in signing for Thomas Tuchel's side.

The fee is reported to be in the region of £33m.

We completed the signing of Christian Eriksen as well. Not quite sure what to make of his signing, he's still a quality player but not sure how he would slot into our system, though he is very versatile and can play anywhere in midfield. Didn't know this before but I read that since he made his comeback only Kevin De Bruyne and Martin Odegaard created more chances than him in the Premier League.

I'm surprised at the signings Chelsea are making as I thought the whole business with Roman Abramovich would have got in the way of them making transfers somehow. It's looking like they're going to be stronger than they were last season. Outside of the English leagues it looks like Robert Lewandowski is joining Barcelona, great signing for them if it goes through.

I think Eriksen is a good signing. Probably knows he’s going to be a squad player and knows the league. Think he probably replaces Mata in the squad, I think it’s a solid signing.

Martinez on the other hand just sounds absolutely dreadful. Surely he will be coming as a defensive midfielder (even though he would struggle unless he had someone more physical with him). A slow, small centre back in the premier league will get absolutely slaughtered. Makes no sense to me, think he is a good player in a slower league but just cannot see how he works out as a CB in the premier league.

I think Eriksson is a good signing. He’s possibly not a starter every single week but he’s really talented and can pass on loads to the kids and he’s super smart and finds little gaps.

Also on a human side, I think it’s just so nice for him and his family to be back up at a elite club and for him to be able to continue his career maybe slightly different to what they had planned out before the Euros but he did wonders for brentford and now their story has a happy ending.

If he takes minutes off Maguire he's worth every penny.

An elite club

Can't see it myself. 5 good CBs does seem a slightly excessive though. I can't see Ten Haag playing 5-3-2 - only logic I could possibly see is if Martinez plays in the Europa League. I can't see anyway a 5'8 CB does well in the Premier League no matter how good they might be technically.
