Fever….it’s far more assured though Light Years is more fun.
A very close call, but decided to vote for 'Light Years', as it has more of a special place in heart. I do also love 'Fever', slick & polished body of work that still to this day sounds bloody fantastic & doesn't feel dated at all, despite being 21 years old. I remember buying this the very day it came out (christ I'm old) & been a permanant part of my affections ever since.

I spoke about 'LY' in the last round, so I'm gonna talk about the fabulous 'Fever' in this round. The album is just amazing, a prominent example of Kylie's constant reinventions & a massive step forward from her previous album. The minimalist electro sound gives a classy feel to the whole project & other female artists should take note on how to evolve themselves, even at 14 years into their careers (if they last that long). Of course what really created the right amount of hype for this album was the mammoth lead single we all know and love "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" which effectively took over the world & was that song of 2001, it could have easily cast a whole shadow over everything else, but thankfully the album had the goods to back up the lead single. The follow up singles "In Your Eyes"-"Love At First Sight" & 'Come Into My World" for instance only added to the overall immense quality of the record. Each of these tracks were not only the perfect options, but they perfectly captured the overall theme of what 'Fever; is all about & helped re-establish Kylie for a new generation of fans.

Other standout moments are "Fever", "Fragile", "Love Affair", "Your Love" & "Burning Up". Hell even the b-sides & bonus tracks were great, special menton to "Tightrope".

This brought Kylie to the iconic Diva status, ranking up there with the likes of Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey & Celine Dion. Sure there's more recent ones to add to this list, but these were the ones who were the biggest at that time. Everything about this era was perfect, the music, the videos, the promo & tour, all of which added to Kylie's legacy.

Agree, light years just has that special place for me aswell as it was such a turnaround in fortunes for Kylie at the time and there was just a huge welcome back for Kylie and people were just happy to have Kylie back doing pop music. Fever did bring kylie to a whole new level and i agree that the whole fever campaign was handled brilliantly in all ways and as we now know it put Kylie on the worldwide map once again. Fever really was the perfect follow up to light years and just built on everything she had created through the whole light years era.

Fever

Light Years is such an overrated album - yes it’s a good pop album and restored Kylie to her chart glory but IMO it’s far from a solid album.

Fever. The perfect album at the perfect time. In my opinion it was a big step up in terms of originality and artistry. And the concept leant itself beautifully to the live show, where it evolved exponentially.

It seemed as though Kylie made significant strides in terms of what a non-US solo female artist could accomplish at the time. The music was very credible in it's own right. And still sounds fresh today.

Kylie wasn't messing about with that one.

Alot of fever does sound fresh today and the style suited kylie brilliantly from a music and image point of view. Light years just has the girl next door vibe to it that was something that always related with kylie in a hugely favourable way and was something that helped kylie relate to people. Fever had more of a global feel than girl next door.

Kylie's two best albums, but 'Light Years' takes it for me. Such a joyous collection of pop, disco and Europop, lots of personality and Kylie's vocal is perhaps the best it has been on record.

I imagine whichever album wins this round will continue to triumph until the end.

I def agree Light years is full of personality and has a good collection of styles that work as an album, the order of the albums worked out really well here, Fever was a brilliant follow up to light years but im not sure how light years would have been received as the follow up to fever if that makes sense, but i suppose for me body language was a really disappointing follow up to Fever for me, aphrodite was more in line to follow fever. I think light years and disco have those huge fun elements that make kylie what she is.

Maybe a full album of the stuff she was working on for Ultimate Kylie - I Believe In You, Giving You Up, Made of Glass, Loving You etc. could have made a nice follow-up to Fever?

I still admire that she took a risk with Body Language though and could have easily done something predictable after the mammoth success she'd had with the Fever era. One of the things I like the most about her is she never repeats the same thing twice in a row and you're never quite sure what you'll get.

Fever for me, 100%. I love Light Years and it has a real futuristic sound in places (the title track especially) that leads so nicely into Fever - but you can't beat Fever's perfect run of singles and incredible album tracks (Fever/Fragile/Love Affair  ). Fever actually came out the day I was born so I have to vote for my birthday twin, I've felt such a strong connection to the album ever since I found that out.
