I can't think of any others off the top of my head! The first one to come to mind was Imagine Dragons 'Believer' but amazingly despite managing 34 weeks in the Top 100 only 13 of them were in the Top 75.

Others that come close off the top of my head:

Joel Adams - Please Don't Go (20 weeks Top 75, 21 weeks Top 100)

DOD & Carla Monroe - Still Sleepless (20 weeks Top 75, 21 weeks Top 100)

Judging by the answer to this Pointless question, it looks like if there is another it has to be post-2018.

Martin & Gina from last year was top 75 for ages without going too 40 wasn’t it?

Martin & Gina was 33 weeks Top 100 but “only” 20 Top 75.

I know Jim found a 90s track that had an epic Top 100 run without going Top 40 but not sure how much of that was Top 75? I’m rubbish at searching for old discussions. ;)

That was 'The King Is Here'/'The 900 Number' from 45 King which spent 30 weeks in the top 100 of which 5 were top 75 so not close.
I hadn't realised how many weeks 'Dandelions' had got to (mind this may be because I don't really consider top 75 stats to be of much meaning) so good catch there - my first thought for what the previous record may have been was 'Martin & Gina' and indeed looks like that may have been the joint record holder.
I still haven't even heard this song, even though I'm perfectly aware of its existence. Maybe I should do something about that.

Do - it’s gorgeous. :)

I’d still love it to go Top 40 although if it’s broken a record that’s something I guess.

Let It Go by Demi Lovato (#42, 27 weeks)

Believer by Imagine Dragons (#42, 34 weeks)

A-Punk by Vampire Weekend (#55, 21 weeks)

July by Noah Cyrus (#66, 20 weeks)

Let It Go only spent 20 weeks in the Top 75 - and Believer only spent 13 in the Top 75 as previously posted :)

Can’t see anything to beat Dandelions - yet…..

I should think any chance of suddenly going back up to make the top 40 is long gone now it's heading downwards every time. It's done very well for a song that peaked outside though. I'm not sure but it could even be on ACR now as there's no way of knowing what would be on the declines at the moment.

Nope - it’s on 1 week of decline max and may even be 0 as its sales stayed roughly the same this week, so it has 2 more weeks Top 75 minimum. :)

To answer the question - yes.

Restricting data to purely the Top 75 (So Top 75 since 1978 when it began) and removing all entries that peaked between 1 and 40 (regardless of how many weeks said record spent between 41 and 75) we have

I then wondered... And I removed form the data set anything that was a Top 40 position. What, I thought, would the list become if we included everything that was just in the range 41-75? Would the list change? And if so, by how much?

Again, just looking at weeks between 41 and 75 we have the below.

3 of the songs on that list starting their runs at pretty much exactly the same time this year!
  • 1 month later...
Dandelions has so far made it to 27 weeks, overtaking Mumford & Sons - The Cave and Rihanna - Needed Me on 26 weeks which previously had the most without reaching the Top 30!
I'd be curious to see how much sales Ruth is on so far. Selling between 7k and 11k without touching top 40, 27 weeks and counting!
398k. The track will be certified Gold next Friday.

Fascinating data sets from KOS as ever above! To think how much these stats have risen in the streaming era; it tells quite a story in itself. And lest we forget, had the chart not been manipulated to remove anything beyond the third biggest track per artist and accelerate decline by the ACR rule since July 2017, the numbers would surely be even higher.
