I’m watching the leadership debate. Sunak sounded like a broken record and Truss was just not credible at all. Badenoch while coming across as likeable was just not convincing enough and lacked substance. Penny Mordant looked like a leader in waiting apart from her comment on the Brexit dividend but the real surprise was Tom Tugenhat who reasonated well with me.

It's the Tory Party Leader contest - someone has a bit (let's not go aboard here) of compassion for others, in this case Tugendhat. Right to the bottom of the list in their electorate!
You make me LOL so much. How can a woman who got a degree at Oxford be an intellectual void? Anyway keep up the humour. :D

Trust me, the ability to write an essay and copy stuff out a book (or off the internet) does not in any way demonstrate an ability in anything except the ability to write an essay and copy stuff out of a book, and remember enough of it for a short time to pass an exam. The important stuff is the ability to analyse situations, logic, deal with people, be persuasive, understand complex issues and have an overview of what life is like for people that didn't get their future bought for them by rich parents sending them to the schools that get you admission into power. I knew some not-that-bright people at uni...."daddy's got a jaguar, snort"

very amused this is the result when he's getting knocked out next.

from a brief watch he was the only one who didn't majorly creep me out or repulse me. And he STILL had the line 'we can't let Labour use our record in government against us at the next election'. Get them all flushed.

(further down that thread you'll find further details on the candidates' performance, enjoy Truss polling below the lizardman constant for 'charismatic' :D)

Right wing press going hard on Penny Mordaunt's previous support for self ID, saying she's now lying about it. Kemi Badenoch now topping list of Tory supporters as Truss is now seen to be a bit of a turkey. Could Badenoch be a suprise finalist? God help us if so as she'll win with the Tory party.

I think the most likely outcome now is a Truss-Sunak final, in which I would back Truss. Badenoch is very popular with the membership as she’s the most full fat conservative, but I still can’t really see her getting enough MPs on board. I don’t know what manoeuvres have been happening over the last few days though.

Interestingly Sunak has made himself very toxic with the membership as there’s a lot of suspicion around him being in bed with Cummings and more instrumental than he really ought to have been in bringing down Johnson.

Liz Truss has said that she became a Tory because of her dissatisfaction with the education system when she was at school. Every single day of her school life was under a Tory government.

It’s interesting when politicians make these kind of statements because many teachers will say things have got progressively worse under the Tories from problems recruiting staff to significant cuts in funding and the impact of the social care system being overwhelmed.

No way did she say something that stupid. She went to Oxford, remember

Lol now the Tories are trying to boycott all further TV debates thinking that they are doing damage to their brand image! I mean how dare we even expect them to have some kind of scrutiny.

That's true actually  , and Margaret Thatcher made it into 10 Downing Street just in time for Liz Truss's first year of school and would have been there right up until the last year of secondary school.

Sunak 115 (+14)

Mordaunt 82 (-1)

Truss 71 (+7)

Badenoch 58 (+9)

Tugendhat 31 (-1)

Tugendhat out. Sunak surprisingly does the best out of the Braverman vote distribution.

I can't see Badenoch picking up many (if any) votes from Tugendhat so she should be next to go.

You'd think the majority would pile to Sunak. Suspect Tugendhat ran this time anyway to raise his profile, seems the obvious choice if the Tories lose the next general election.

Sunak vs Truss or Sunak vs Mordaunt. Sunak is the strongest electoral prospect out of those, but none is particularly strong, and none with Blojo's strange lad popularity.

Yes, I was half expecting a bigger boost to Badenoch as she was like identical to Braverman in her anti-woke stance (but more articulate) and had the likes of Laurence Fox and Darren Grimes etc behind her.

I'm now hoping that Truss doesn't get in the final 2 as she'll have 2 years to mess the country up royally and she doesn't seem to have any kind of emotions, a female version of Johnson in fact. I'm not sure she'll get all of Badenoch's votes next round tbh after today so all to play for with Penny Mordaunt.

The big attack line against Sunak will be his tax and nationality affairs. Why did he continue to hold a US Green Card for months as a minister? If opposition parties can get a simple version of that message and make it stick, Sunak could really struggle.

I assume most of Tugenhat's votes will go to Mordaunt as they are both the more centre right candidates!

EDIT: Read what Rooney said four posts above and I guess Sunak might get some votes as he is centre right too!

I can't see Truss getting many votes from Tugenhat supporters. So Sunak and Mordaunt will probably increase their lead over Truss.

I happened to see the leaders debate last night (cos I hate myself), Mordaunt performed very poorly, I feel her momentum

is slipping away, Sunak and Truss seems the most likely top 2, God help us all but still don’t think either of those will have the same effect that Boris did.
