Is it just me or have they redone the original mix? It sounds so different to what I remember

Please tell me I'm hearing things because the edit also sounds different? The chorus sounds sped up. And it's like the organ has been pitched down and they've increased the sound of the kicks and added other additional sound effects

I don't notice difference. It sounds the same as before on spotify (like the audio in music video). What music source or platform do you use?

I quickly queued it up in Spotify as I usually have a good ear for these things but it sounds no different to me

I use Spotify and listen to this every day and today it suddenly sounds different to me

I don’t hear the sped up chorus but I can hear some extra sound effects so you’re not going mad! Definitely slightly different though thankfully not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the song.

The Korg organ 100% sounds different

Looking like this is gonna just miss out on #1 again this week. I still have no doubts it will get there, but it’s looking like it may have to wait for LF SYSTEM to go to ACR…

I definitely hear the change actually, the organ sounds slightly more echo-y and a very marginally lower bassline.

 

This upload from a couple of months back must still be the original, as it's more familiar to me:

 

 

When I listen side by side to certain parts on this vid and then Spotify I can detect it.

 

Damn, I should have bought it off iTunes before they changed it. Same thing happened when Becky Hill's Space was sped up by the label, presumably after it flopped for being too slow by her standards :lol:

I'm actually really annoyed they've done this! The original was perfect. What's the point in those changes? I hope this doesn't stall now all of a sudden.

 

The song still sounded the same when I was playing it in my own playlist on Wednesday morning but has sounded different ever since it came up in a Spotify curated playlist I was listening to that afternoon.

Stalls at #2 again but the gap has closed and she's just over 2,000 sales behind. Unless Hold Me Closer is a runaway success all week I think she will have it in the bag.

It does seem bizarre, could it be due to the involvement of Warner? They picked it up as it was climbing the charts I believe, I wonder if they insisted on a change for some reason?

 

The weird/annoying thing about the digital era is how a finished product is not a finished product anymore. Labels and artists can tinker with production (BOTA), change lyrics (Beyoncé/Lizzo tracks), song titles for SEO purposes (Anyone For You - Tiger Lily), tempo (Space) etc and just act like nothing ever happened by simply uploading the new version in place of the old.

 

Obviously I get it in terms of changing harmful or offensive lyrics, but why override the production of a song and make the original cease to exist, just re-release it with the new production if you absolutely must.

There was literally no need. It's not like the song was struggling in the charts for them to change the production. It's gonna take me a while to get used to the changes.

There's only a 2 second difference but I assume it's some boring reason about it going on to Warner.

 

The same happened when Shygirl had to replace the god-tier Spice Girls “Viva Forever” sample in “BB” which has spoilt it a little, or at least made it sound a little weird on streaming services, however fortunately I was able to download it well before it was replaced, and that kids, is why streaming is bad. : )

I wish there was some way of knowing in advance before labels tweak tracks, so we could download them before they disappear.
