November 23, 20222 yr Me too. I can see why people dislike the vocal but the song itself and the composition is great.
November 23, 20222 yr The overplay doesn't change that something special was happening when Wonderwall came out, and pretty soon everyone knew it. Yes I agree, it was a game changer. Overplay or not, it’s a classic.
November 23, 20222 yr I can’t imagine Wonderwall sung by Noel though - it needs that gritty vocal to convey the slightly scornful ambivalence in the lyrics. I can’t imagine Liam doing DLBIA either as that needs a much smoother tone, particularly for the anthemic chorus. But maybe I’m just conditioned by how I know them.
November 23, 20222 yr Aren't the majority of Oasis' songs demoed by Noel first, I believe a lot of these demos with him singing in place of Liam have been released on deluxe reissues of their albums but not sure if a version of him singing Wonderwall exists.
November 24, 20222 yr oh poor Wonderwall, I knew it was gonna exit soon cos of the haters :/ overplayed but good is still good should have finished minimum top 5 imho
November 24, 20222 yr still classic, still sung in karaoke bars, and very Beatles. I prefer Liam's vocals to Noel's. Liam has passion and emotion and Noel as a singer is OK but his talent is doing the rest. Songs, production, ideas, more musically adventurous.
November 24, 20222 yr Only 1 of the Top 8 was in my Top 8 and that’s my 30! Don’t think that’s a contender to win but Top 5 for it would be fab. By the way we played 7 of the Top 8 as runner up bonus tracks in our #1 listening sessions. Bittersweet Symphony was the only one we didn’t; that was nominated but we skipped over it as it’s played so often. 4 of them we played in the same 95/96 session - we were so spoiled for choice that week but we clearly chose well!
November 24, 20222 yr 'Bittersweet Symphony' is today's post-PopMaster song choice... is it a sign of what is to come next? :P
November 24, 20222 yr 'Bittersweet Symphony' is today's post-PopMaster song choice... is it a sign of what is to come next? :P Well 'The Sign' just exited the survivor today :basil: (it probably won't but I'll laugh if it does)!
November 24, 20222 yr It better not be next, cue Richard Ashcroft barging everyone in the street out the way when he gets the news! :o On a completely unrelated note I have only 3 of my 30 left. I'd quite like them to be top 3 thanks in advance! :cheer: (hashtag how on Earth is Better Off A Loan still in?! :teresa:  )

November 24, 20222 yr Wonderwall is a classic, fantastic song. It isn't personally my favourite Oasis song but that doesn't mean it's bad (see also: unfair slagging off of the likes of Smells Like Teen Spirit because it's the 'mainstream one'). Having said that I guess overplay combined with the fact they have better in their discography might have influenced me in ranking it just below my top 10 rather than a few places higher. *Obligatory f**k off to Robson & Jerome*
November 24, 20222 yr There's only 1 song left that I'd actually choose to listen to. They're all fine, I guess and would probably not skip any of them if they came up in a playlist. Edited November 24, 20222 yr by Colm
