I didn't like If You Tolerate This for ages. I was quite disappointed that they had messed up their chances of a number 1 single by releasing a song with no impact.

Heard this as well as I usually tune into PopMaster and Scott's show on R2 while working from home, what a delight *.*

Scott's been a good choice for Radio 2, Steve Wright had long outstayed his welcome (and I used to be massive fan in the 80's when he was the biggest and most innovative DJ in the land), sunday morning suits him better - just oldies! :)

It always irked me how Steve would talk over the songs half way through. Scott's much better although it's weird to hear him not play much of what he was playing on R1 :lol:

So pleased how well The Verve did, it's another one I seem to recall a lot of 'overrated' comments about (maybe it was just Colm :kink:) so I thought it may underperform, probably my favourite Britpop song, the lyrics, video and string combination is really wonderful :wub:

Cue comments about Bitter Sweet Symphony being overplayed :D the string sample maybe, but the song itself is awesome and we most definitely needed to hear some sounds like this in 1997.

Well, there's my aforementioned 7 pointer which means it's a fight to the death between my 29 and 24 - excellent *.* 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' is still brilliant of course, instantly recognisable.

 

If 'Common People' finishes 2nd then I at least got 1 prediction right :D :lol:

BSS was one of my last cuts - I guess I decided that as I was only going to give it a few points anyway it was better to give them where they’d really be needed (eg Def Leppard haha). It is an all time great but I just don’t jump for joy when I hear it anymore I suppose.

 

That’s a big step up in points anyway - almost 150 ahead of Children. :o

 

I suspect there’ll be more 0s for Born Slippy than Common People and that will give Common People the win.

I kinda thought I'd be out before the top 2 tbh so not surprising haha but The Verve being my last voter remaining is a good one. 7 points to that. It's largely helped by the video for me which is just iconic.

 

'Common People' would be my preferred winner here.
