March 1, 20232 yr Me too tbh! They were also being awfully loud in a zombie apocalypse... You would never feel safe, and especially not in a mall, where every inch wouldn't have been scouted.
March 1, 20232 yr Author I loved this episode! There was so much tension - in terms of potential danger, the confirmation of danger, and of course their bubbling-under-the-surface romantic feelings! I think they both felt a false sense of security. The mall was said to have been swarming with infected - yet it appeared to be completely abandoned... and they took that on face value, rather than being hyper vigilant that there could be some infected somewhere. I feel like their recklessness would stem from having been born into the world as it currently is, while at the same time they've also being quite shielded from danger, due to being raised in the quarantine zone. Plus teenagers will be teenagers - not thinking too rationally, but feeling invincible. Curiosity really got the better of them. Imagine the authoritarian lifestyle they were accustomed to. The temporary distraction of having fun in the mall, experiencing totally new things, would be so intoxicating! That's how it came across to me anyway.

March 1, 20232 yr Author and I love you too! http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/uploads/av-3033.png Two more episodes to go and like Rooney I'm incredibly curious about how they're going to fit everything in!
March 4, 20232 yr I didn't mind the episode but it definitely didn't get me as much as Ep3 did. There was just too much around the mall for me, I loved the set up but the episode didn't massively progress for me after the first few minutes there. I liked the idea around the romantic gestures but I don't think we needed to see all of them in order to understand the point of what was going on. I didn't really feel any sense of danger or tension whilst watching either so it just didn't quite hit the spot for me - oddly I didn't actually find the infected guy particularly threatening either, something about him definitely didn't freak me in the way that earlier instances of the infected have.
March 4, 20232 yr The opposite for me - the longer it went on, the more nervous I got about when the infected would arrive!
March 6, 20232 yr Are we going to give Bella Ramsey all the awards now or...??? I thought the latest episode was a bit slow to start with, but the last 20 mins or so ramped it up quite a bit and Bella gave the best performance of their career to date.
March 6, 20232 yr Episode 8… Incredible. Bella Ramsey is truly fantastic as Ellie. I’m sure the people that doubted her feel a little silly now.
March 7, 20232 yr Ahhh the Winter section is one of the most iconic parts of the game, loved seeing this adapted. Somehow they made Davif way more menacing and less one dimensional than in the game. They definitely added a sinister controlling tone to him, who was quite heartfeldt to begin with like a true manipulator/controller would be. I liked how they inergrated Joel's tortune scene too to show what he is capable of. I feel to date they've toned down how violent a man Joel is in the show. Eitherway, I'm ready for that end credit music to roll now and the cut to black. You'll know what I mean in a week's time for those unfamilar with the game.
March 7, 20232 yr Another great episode although ewww at the whole cannibalism thing. Also I got Oliver Twist vibes when they were all eating from the bowls like they were!
March 7, 20232 yr Yeh was a great episode which kind of reminded me of The Walking Dead in places. But again each episode is like standalone and it feels like they aren’t really going anywhere? Not that that’s a criticism as it’s great viewing!

Not that that’s a criticism as it’s great viewing! I get the story thing, but there isn’t really a story in the sense, as the show/game is mainly character driven. The story is more theme based with juxtapositions for the characters, which you see with Joel and Ellie creating the bond Joel and his daughter had. You’ve seen Joel morph from a man who didn’t want to get close to anymore for the fear of losing them, & Ellie has grown to care for Joel as a parent figure she’s never had. The second to final shot of Joel comforting Ellie and showing his watch, was telling us as viewers that Joel now sees Ellie as the daughter he once lost. Fingers crossed it all pays off on screen next week. Knowing how the season will end, this is a show that will make more sense if you go back and watch it all again.
March 7, 20232 yr My second fave episode of the series, just behind ep 3. Just incredible TV. This really has been a monumental success in every way. As somebody who has never played the games, I'm highly anxious what the finale is going to bring next week! :drama:

Yeh I get that and it’s great viewing the problem with it is that this means there’s no real fear the two main characters will ever be in a situation where they are in Pearl which is bad for the shows longevity.

Don't think they ever go to Pearl tbh. Kansas City, Boston, etc, but not to Pearl. Hawaii is an ialand, but they's be better off in Canada, in the cold.

Joel and especially Ellie were in extreme peril throughout episode 8!!
March 8, 20232 yr But neither were ever going to lose we’re they? I feel like you can say this about most shows and their main characters though. Rather than focusing on if they are in peril or not, the key is to focus on their bond/love and what that love can or can do to a person. It's not a zombie show, all of the story is mainly character driver rather than plot as per say. Just enjoy the ride, plenty of twists and turns to come in next season.
