Chart toppers:

• Where Is The Love? (2003)

• Sexyback (2006)

• Give It To Me (2007)

• 4 Minutes (2008)

• Mirrors (2013)

Not only is he a singer, dancer, actor, and one time boyband member, but he can also write a chart topper to. His patronage of BEP helped them to break big in 2003 before becoming one of the most successful male vocalists of the 00s. Co-writing most of his hits should ensure that the $ continue to roll in as the years roll by.

Justin Timberlake is one of my all-time favourite music acts.

Justified is one of the best albums ever, and Like I Love You one of my favourite singles.

He's only had two solo number ones, but Like I Love You, Cry Me a River and My Love really deserved to take the top spot too.

Shame Justin has had so many number twos or he'd have been much higher up this list.
Love those 3, but Bowie severely underated there. He had quite a few number 2s that should have topped the charts though!

No 91- Ryan Tedder (5)- 15 weeks

Chart toppers:

• Bleeding Love (2007)

• Burn (2013)

• Counting Stars (2013)

• Ghost (2014)

• Something I Need (2014)

The OneRepublic frontman won a competition on MTV way back in 2001 and was chosen by Lance Bass (N*Sync) to be signed to ill-fated music management company, when it fell through Tender spent a few years under the mentorship of Timbaland as he got OneRepublic off the ground. 2007 was the year the band broke with some help from his producer friend Timbaland, Tedder also became a much sought after writer after his track “Bleeding Love” became a No1 on both sides of the Atlantic. I oddly thought he’d written more chart toppers than this.

No 90- Roy Orbison (5)- 16 weeks

Chart toppers:

• Claudette (1958)

• Only The Lonely (1960)

• It’s Over (1964)

• Oh Pretty Woman (1964)

• Crying (1980)

“The Big O”, as he was once called, actually wrote his first No 1 for the Everly Brothers about his own wife and whilst at Sun records with Elvis. He moved away from Sun and started to record in his own right but nonetheless his first No 1 as a performer (“Only The Lonely”) was offered and rejected by both the Everly Brothers and Elvis- thankfully as it transpired.

No 88- Mike Chapman & Nicky Chinn (5)-16 weeks

Chart toppers:

• Blockbuster (1973)

• Can The Can (1973)

• Tiger Feet (1974)

• Devil Gate Drive (1074)

• Lonely This Christmas (1974)

Helping to create the whole Glam Rock era, Chapman/Chinn worked with most of the stars of the time (Sweet, Suzi Quatro/ Mud/ Smokie) to write 19 top 40 hits. They split in 1983 as a partnership with Chinn writing some minor hits for the likes of Tina Turner but Chapman continued to be influential producing Blondie albums, and writing Tina Turner’s “The Best” and Ace Of Base’s “Always Have, Always Will” among other things.

Ryan Tedder is a good songwriter, I usually like his songs, and Roy Orbison is the answer to the question "Who is the greatest male vocalist of all-time?" what a range, and whoah nobody could write and sing a tortured love song like him.

Chinn-Chapman could do no wrong for me from 1972 through 1975, great fun. I'm surprised Mike Chapman had no further number ones! Pretty sure he did in the USA! Kiss You All Over, Mickey maybe....

My favourite Roy Orbison song will always be Penny Arcade :), although that was written by Sammy King

Catching up - thanks to Bruce Welch and co. I got a Pointless answer the other day for "song titles including feet" courtesy of 'Foot Tapper' :D

Xenomania bangers and Bowie back-to-back? Yes please!

No 106- Dizzee Rascal (5)- 10 weeks

Chart Toppers:

• Dance Wiv Me (2008)

• Bonkers (2009)

• Holiday (2009)

• Dirtee Disco (2010)

• Shout (2010)

Hard to believe that Dizzee has been around for almost 20 years now and can clearly write a chart topper as well. A little help from Calvin Harris saw him turn critical acclaim into sales and he didn’t look back for a good 2 years, though the highlight for me will always be his stint on Band Aid 20.

Bizarre that Dizzee didn't get a credit for Band Aid 20?! For all the talk of rappers credited as featured artists, I wonder how often it goes the other way and they don't get the credit.

Ryan Tedder has also a lot of popular tracks that didn't go to #1

on top of my head... Beyonce-Halo, Timbaland-Apologize, Kelly Clarkson-Already Gone,

Leona Lewis-Happy, Jordin Sparks-Battlefield,

Adele-Rumour Has It,Turning Tables,

Also I Ain't Worried.

I specifically omitted the Portugal the Man copycat :D
Ryan Tedder definitely another surprisingly low one for someone who seemed like a go-to songwriter for the industry for quite a while!

Yeah, this exactly. Thought he'd be much higher up the list. I think it's as Bjork says, he's written a lot of popular songs but not all well known songs make #1.

Starting out as a popstar Wroldson turned her talents to songwritimg writing some massive sellers as noted on the chart toppers. She helped the Saturdays with many of their initial hits before moving on to many of the “X Factor” contestants. She came near in her own right when she provided the vocals for Calvin Harris on “How Deep Is Your Love” in 2015 which made No 2

You’ll be hearing about Swedish producers a lot in this thread and here’s the first. Otherwise known as Karl Schuster, he’s a long time collaborator of a certain Max Martin and was helped out considerably on his tally of No 1’s by being involved in Sheeran’s “No 6 Collaboration Project” but has also helped generate hits for Britney, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith and Katy Perry.
