I'm not really a fan of Lana Del Rey, I find her voice very grating and the music isn't interesting enough to get past that, I always try each time because there has to be something in it, but I almost always give up pretty quickly. But reading her threads always fascinate me as it shows how I differently I view music to a lot of people. Even the acts I love most, I tend to tire of somewhat after a while without some kind of significant changes in style, because there comes a time where there just has to be enough of that music already. I find it amazing how most people are so positive about another above hour long album, even more so when there are such small gaps between them, when what I've listened to largely sounds like everything else of hers I've listened to in the last 5 years.

My thoughts summed up exactly.

I am finding this a major chore to get through in all honesty (once again with her albums after the first few). The same overly complex metaphors and images slurred together and I am not relating to any of it at all. Maybe it's just not for me, but I've tried and tried with her and just don't understand the appeal.

The interludes are so bad for the listening experience too. They completely jarr the experience and elongate the album even more :drama:

I am glad many here enjoy the music but for me it is more of the same (and a samey that I don't particularly enjoy)

I do agree that it is a bit too long and some of the middle tracks are very samey and could have been trimmed out! still a brilliant album imo but slightly too long.

Also, the interludes are too long, 4+ minutes each is a bit much for an interlude tbh.

Thank you! I was going back on sales threads off here for the sales but couldn’t see one for that particular chart week only the top 100 rundown

I seem to remember Blue Banisters having some sort of vinyl issue am I right? I think it climbed in week 3 because of this but then it may have dropped out the top 75/100 altogether the next week

yes i think the vinyls were shipped a bit late iirc, though i dont think it would've been enough to get #1 even with them, elton was 12k ahead that week. not 100% sure though

I finally decided to listen to this album and nearly did a double take at A&W bc I thought she said “shimmy shimmy Ko Ko bop” *.*

UPDATE: OKAY I WASN’T ON CRACK *.*

Lana Del Rey interpolates the lyrics from "Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko Bop" in the closing part of her 2023 song "A&W."

Finally got round to listening to the CD, as I always buy all of her albums physically.

There's definitely a solid album in here if you remove the interludes and quite a lot of the middle section.

I enjoyed the first four tracks, Candy Necklace, and then Margaret, Peppers and Taco Truck x VB at the end. Peppers is a great sound for Lana! I would have liked to see a few more sonic switch-ups on here for her but it's solid - just bloated.

My thoughts summed up exactly.

I feel just the same. I really want to love her music as Born to Die is one of my favourite albums and there’s a lot of highlights on Ultraviolence, Lust for Life and NFR. The rest though are such chores to get through; as well as the points you raised, I find there’s a distinct lack of melodies and hooks. I tried listening to this album today but couldn’t make it past half way.

I can accept the music just not being for me, it’s just the fact I know she is capable of making music that I really enjoy. I’d rather it was one or the other.

I don't love it as much as NFR, but it's a massive return to form after the last two albums. Taco Truck x VB is phenomenal. Lana truly gets music like no other, her songwriting is totally unmatched.

Those interludes truly can get in the bin though.

Im the opposite, guess every Lana fan is different,

I love NFR and love both Chemtrails and Blue Banisters as much as NFR

but this I find too dense and haven't connected to any song yet, I like it but don't love it

I think I've decided that this works best as follows:

01 The Grants

02 Did You Know...

03 Sweet

04 A&W

05 Candy Necklace

06 Jon Bastiste Interlude

07 Grandfather...

08 Margaret

09 Peppers

10 Taco Truck

The others are all okay-ish but just make the listening experience feel more boring

I'm glad it's not just me that doesn't quite get her then. 'Born To Die' was a great album but I couldn't get through a whole listen of any of her subsequent albums.

Highest first week sales so far for an album this year in the UK!

(Sales taken from the sales thread) #1 - 41,925 Lana Del Rey - Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd [9,717 CDs, 20,809 vinyl, 2,582 cassettes, 998 downloads, 7,819 streaming]

A&W back in at #45, Paris, Texas (ft. SYML) at #48 and Candy Necklace (ft. Jon Batiste) at #68

This is definitely hitting more on subsequent listens as expected - 'Candy Necklace', 'Paris, Texas' and 'Kintsugi' in particular have been my biggest growers

The singles, 'Peppers' and 'Grandfather...' are my top 5

'Judah Smith Interlude' is frustrating because the instrumental is wonderfully eerie but the rest of the content doesn't work for me at all, so that production feels wasted

Amazing album sales for her! Plus a strong trio of songs that have charted this week, although a shame none top 40

This is potentially coming to join her holy trinity for me now alongside Born to Die and NFR!

I think it’s just hitting me a lot (to be fair aside from Honeymoon and Blue Banisters) all her albums hit me quite hard but I do feel like this will have some replay value outside of the initial release period it’s only the interludes that really kind of let it down.

It’s #5 this week in the UK which is a better second week position than what NFR, Chemtrails and Blue Banisters managed. This seems to have been her most hyped release for some time.
