That time is approaching as we are near the end of another year. The Smash Hits End of Year returns after not happening last year (only second time I've not compiled one after 2019). There's been some fab tunes this year along with unexpected ones as well. A few songs included are byed due to being hits thanks to TikTok and being a discovery this year but it won't be without some exclusions as three of my BJSC Entries won't be involved (Sean Tyas, Hydrogen Child and Emancipator) due to having known ages before I sent them and being older than 2016 personally. The oldest song here is from 2016 though which is where I cut off old song allowances for specific reasons and is also why one of my BJSC entries from 2017 is in.

Whilst we wait for the countdown to begin on the 26th we'll take a memory back and post 100 and 40 (for 2007) positions from past EOY's of mine and also a rank of my #1's in years gone by from least fave to fave. I will do that from Sunday.

Speculate what could be my #1 here. There's plenty up for grabs!

Change of plan regarding the random EOY songs from the past. I'll be doing the 100 and 40 in 2007's case positions for each year I've posted (taken off Dan's thread) as a reflection. This being the build up to the #1's off the past and being ranked from least fave to fave which then of course will be followed by the top 200 of 2022 in coming weeks!

As it was a top 40 back in 2007, 40 is...

Perhaps one that most actually wouldn't know or remember much of nowadays in the form of Orson's lead single from their 2nd album 'Ain't No Party'. The song also didn't fare well in the official chart missing the top 20 and not hanging around more than a second week. On reflection this isn't that great compared to their first album singles for me but isn't too bad still.

#100 in 2008 EOY

My 100th song in the 2008 Smash Hits End of Year Chart was Sam Sparro and '21st Century Life', the follow up to the massive 'Black and Gold'. A bit dated listening back now and I gave it a spin on Spotify recently too.. it does sound pretty good still despite that.

Sam remains a one hit wonder as this peaked at 44.

2009

I'm not a Beverley Knight fan generally but this was a pretty solid song from her. It didn't impress on the official charts but it did enough to become my 100th song of 2009!

#100 in 2010

One for Riser here no doubt. Joshua Radin a one hit wonder with 'I'd Rather Be With You'. This peaked at #9 and spent 7 weeks in my top 40!

Who remembers Stooshe? 'Black Heart' was 100 for me 10 years ago!

I think I've heard Sun Is Up a few times - definitely a retrospective one for me though as I only 'discovered' INNA around 2016 and was quite surprised when I found out she'd had UK chart success!

"Sun Is Up" is a banger! Just take me back to that time... I miss 2011.

Great so far!

Thanks Sergej, yeah 2011 had some right bangers including Inna's!
