And yet some posters will moan about it who moaned today about ACR, Tom Odell, resets, golden boy Lewis Capaldi, sample ripper Central Cee, Taylor Swift, fake streams, cassettes, venbee, Spice Girls on streaming, GaGa on Tidal

 

Was just waiting for it to be made official as it's been obvious for a while but :wub: at 'Escapism.' being the first #1 of the new year. It's really clicked with me even more than before over the last few days, I think this is going to go down as a pretty iconic and memorable #1 hit, a fantastic song with a pretty inspiring backstory of making the comeback as an independent artist. And 070 Shake officially being a UK #1 artist will take a while to get used to.

 

I knew Taylor at #2 was coming with the resets but it really did not occur to me that it'd even be possible for SZA to also be behind venbee, that is really disappointing - ah well, still a solid top 2 and a good new peak for SZA, I hope she will still get higher in the coming weeks. Don't think I particularly want to hear Radio 1's edit of 'Kill Bill' judging by the descriptions in here though :lol: lol that that and venbee are a back-to-back of way oversensitive edits. I'm still really enjoying 'Made You Look' at the moment so don't mind that one getting a reset especially as it's kept Central Cee out of the top 5, hooray. Here's hoping that #6 peak sticks. (Aside, we have a top 5 entirely made of songs whose lead performer is a female soloist, if no one made that observation already! goddard. spoiling it being an entirely female top 5)

 

I honestly forgot 'Miss You' was still popular oops. #8 for Rema is a letdown when I started the thread hoping he had a chance at #3 but again at least it's still a new peak I guess. The Bugzy Malone song has grown on me, I don't think I'll ever hear it and not just wish I was listening to 'Wile Out' instead but I am accepting it with its own merits a little more now, fine enough top 10 hit. And I am very happy to see 'Another Love' finally getting a second top 10 week :wub: can stick around as long as it likes tbh, always a gorgeous song (and it denying 'PSYCHO' another top 10 week is a big W for humanity x). Although I'll also agree with Jade's earlier post that this makes it denying a top 10 peak to 'Do I Wanna Know?' even more unfortunate in retrospect oops.

 

'Creepin'' missing the top 10 is a disappointment too - as I posted in the R1 playlist thread I really think it's a pretty significant improvement on the Mario Winans version, the production on Metro Boomin's whole album is fantastic and The Weeknd sounds great on the song, 'I Don't Wanna Know' has always been like a 6/10 song for me but this elevates it so much imo. Hope its chance hasn't passed yet.

 

Ooops Joel Corry still missing the top 20 even post Xmas clearout and with a reset - I wonder if he will ever be able to get another proper big hit, he's still commendably consistent in getting at least moderate hits but just seems to have run out of a bit of steam. The song is still rising on Spotify though so probably too early to write it off still. This is my 2nd favourite of his hits after 'Head & Heart', not saying that much but it's pretty solid. '10:35' keeps going under my radar, it's an ok song but I don't think it deserves to have outpeaked 'Hot In It'. Still not fussed on 'Pointless' really but here for it to go top 10 just to continue his streak.

 

And lastly hooray for the actual popular Stormzy song taking its place in the top 40 again x Very glad that 'Firebabe' didn't end up sticking in the top 40.

Resets of songs older than 3 years have to be requested by the record company and linked to a new campaign a la Kate Bush and Metallica with Stranger Things/Tik Tok promotions. If the record company doesn't request it, it won't happen.....

Firebabe is at 45 and Christmas Drillings is at 73.
