Shame this didn't get more weeks at #1 but it should hang around a while I'd say. Deservedly still very hot. Pleased for Miley though. That makes two out of three good #1's from her now!

I do wish it swapped with 'Midnight Sky' still but oh well.

Biography

There’s a lovely moment a little ways into Apple Music’s Songwriter documentary about Ed Sheeran in which Sheeran, jet-lagged and carrying a cup of tea, straggles out into a yard in Malibu at dawn, sits down at his laptop and begins writing a song about the moment right in front of him: the crisp air, the birdsong, the hot tea, the day ahead. He gets a full verse in, melody and all, then pauses. “Songs are weird things,” he says. “How so?” an interviewer asks. “They just come and go,” Sheeran says, smiling. “And they never give you any warning.” For Sheeran, they seem to come pretty reliably. Born in 1991 in Halifax, England, he started out gigging on the UK pub circuit before releasing his first studio album, +, in 2011, and has since become one of the most unstoppable singer-songwriters in music, forging a light blend of folk, pop, hip-hop and dance that feels slick but lived-in, intimate but universal. Whether on his own (“Sing”, “The A Team”, “Shape of You”, “Perfect”) or in collaboration with artists from Taylor Swift to Eminem to Justin Bieber, Sheeran has a unique ability to strike a chord that feels both bittersweet and redemptive, good-natured and genuine: the hopeless romantic who convinces you he might just be right. In 2017, he was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, touching Prince Charles on the arm while shaking his hand—a breach of royal protocol, and an appealingly human one at that. - Apple Music

Biography

Honing his skills under the #OFB banner, North London rapper Headie One soon became one of drill's most engaging figures, finding national success alongside RV on the back of iconic mixtape Drillers & Trappers. Moving into solo work during the late 2010s, the rapper found his biggest success to date with 2019 mixtape Music X Road, which landed at number five on the U.K. album charts. Rising from the remnants of North London gang Tottenham Mandem, rap collective Star Gang soon became popular on the North London rap scene; the most notable of its members are Tottenham's Headie One (born Irving Adjei) and RV. From day one, the duo's synergy on the mike was evident. Working under the Star Gang moniker through the early 2010s, the pair released early singles like "Youngers from Farm," shifting between more traditional U.K. rap and U.S.-inspired trap for early mixtapes Headz or Tails (Headie One, 2014) and Sticks & Stones (Headie One & RV, 2016). Moving fully into the U.K.'s drill scene, the pair released third mixtape Drillers & Trappers the following year. It was here that the pair truly made their mark: working with producers like MKThePlug and M1OnTheBeat, the duo quickly built a following with their relentless flows and artistic synergy. Marking their singles with the tag #OFB, the duo soon formed drill collective Original Farm Boys, an homage to the Broadwater Farm Estate where they grew up. Headie continued through the late 2010s with a series of individual releases. His second solo mixtape, The One (2018), produced some of his biggest hits to date, with "Golden Boot" and "Know Better" soon becoming drill staples. After closing out 2018 with third tape The One Two, Headie kicked off 2019 with the long-awaited sequel to Drillers & Trappers, enlisting RV's help for the 13-track set Drillers X Trappers II. Heralded by the Top Ten-charting single "18Hunna," the rapper's fourth tape, Music X Road, arrived later that year; with features including Skepta, Dave, and NAV, the release pushed Headie's brand of drill into new, inventive directions. A strong working relationship with producer Fred Again resulted in the late-2019 single "Charades" before the duo linked up in early 2020 for experimental mixtape GANG. Headie's debut studio album, EDNA, arrived in October 2020: comprising a wide portfolio of styles from trap to drill, the project offered a comprehensive account of Headie's life and career, with some of the rapper's most personal writing to date. - Apple Music

To get a #1 17 years into your career and ten years since your last one is seriously impressive.

I don't think it's as good as Midnight Sky, Mother's Daughter or Slide Away but I still really love it.

I'll be amazed if she can ever top 'Midnight Sky', it's just that incredible.

That new Ed Sheeran thing 🤯

Not my cup of tea, would be a polite way to express it...

Also, first time hearing the Metro Boomin song - just a carbon copy of the old version. Are Metro Boomin the new Boyzone?

Agreed. I still get goosebumps listening to it.

yeah i'm not too keen on the ed song, but its not meant to be a commercial hit, its a tribute to jamal edwards

and metro boomin is just one person, hes a producer

I’d prefer if the 1975 and Tory Lanez switched places. Boo at the 1975 stalling at #41

Can I just say that the #1 turnover this year has been *chef's kiss*

Three new #1's all in the beginning of the year, why can't every chart be this fresh?

I’d prefer if the 1975 and Tory Lanez switched places. Boo at the 1975 stalling at #41

That's absolutely appalling that a cretin like Tory Lanez kept it from the top 40, but there's nothing to suggest it'll stall there?

I doubt 'About You' will climb now unfortunately, it's been moved lower down Apple's Today's Top Hits and their tour is almost over. It's also still really low on HHUK!

Fingers crossed that the 1975 don’t stall and that they can climb into the top 40 next week

Another reason to rue his existence if that really is the case!

Did Jack just call Chris Brown just "Brown"?
I think he just uses a copy of the OCC listings for some of the artist credits - see also "Interplanetary" :kink:
Great top 3 of women whose songs are about coping with a recent breakup! Miley is the most sensible advice although Raye's the best of the 3 tracks musically

THIS!!!!

Central Cee going 6-6-6 feels extremely appropriate :kink:

AND ALSO THIS!!!

Imagine if someone would have told you at the start of 2021 that the next 2 years would bring number 1 singles from the likes of Miley, Kate Bush, Elton John, Sam Smith and Kim Petras? Who would have believed them?
