Which is why she chose the worst week to release - if you don’t have the resources to go all in then a bit of strategic planning would go a long way, Raye is going to end the week on very healthy sales that could achieve #1 in the current climate in the right week - going up against a major label with a legacy artist that is going all out for promo would always be an uphill challenge for an independent artist.

I wouldn't say she chose the worst week. I mean, last week had Sam Smith, next week has Paramore, the week after has P!nk and Inhaler, the week after Gorillaz, the week after Miley Cyrus etc.

On the surface, I'd have thought Shania probably looked the easiest one of those to beat (assuming that was her mindset for picking the week she did)

RAYE's album release date was announced in October, both before 'Escapism.' hit the charts (so I doubt #1 would've seemed likely at the time) and before Shania's release date was announced. (Though I suppose she could've changed the date later if she felt another week had a better chance.)
The boy's Shania.

Well, it makes sensw it's not Shakira, as she looks younger and completely different, but I've never heard of ha!

I reckon RAYE’s album could be a faster seller than Sam Smith’s album once streaming is factored in

an album with 1 gigantic streaming hit means nothing for album streams, that's why Raye's doing poorly on streams

at least Sam has 1 gigantic streaming hit + some little ones + Alexa seems to favor the Ed/Sam duet too, so Sam will be fine

Raye isn’t saying anything that others haven’t said before.

But for me, I want Shania to get it…

Shania had a hmv signing today, a artist of her stature doing this is unheard of , she took pics with everyone too!!

its an albums chart race... i dont know why some people are so bothered that both artists are pushing for the #1 lmao. It an incredible achievement for either of them, and #2 is still a great position to settle for so i dont think either would be too upset with that!

Its not like RAYE's holding people at gunpoint telling them to buy it lol, but thats what it seems like from some of the dramatic posts ive seen. please take a step outside if youre getting so pressed over an artist pushing for their DEBUT album as an Independent artist to be #1

A better planned release week than going up directly against Sam Smith. I know that album didn't perform spectacularly in the end but it was being touted for big sales after Unholy got to #1.

Shania Twain's only notable entry on either chart for the best part of two decades was her #1 album in 2017 on 20k sales and indeed by all accounts the sales are close this week, so I don't think it was a particularly poorly timed released week. I'm sure on the vast majority of release weeks, she would have to face going up against something with major label backing as an independent artist.

And I dislike him even more than Raye so what’s your point? I just care more about Shania getting #1 than whoever Lewis was against and I find Raye’s tactics very annoying

Shania has been in literally every supermarket, corner shop and pub in the country doing album signings despite having one foot in the grave and the achievement of an additional UK #1 album being almost meaningless to someone of her stature. It is the most bizarrely random and desperate campaign from a big name that I can recall. Calling an independent British artist annoying for using the limited tools at her disposal to compete with that is embarrassingly biased.

Jesus Christ not even trying to hide your ageism, since when is 57 one foot in the grave??

It's true. I saw her in my local branch of ASDA! She was chasing a woman down the produce aisle waving a CD in one hand and a sharpie pen in the other!!! Poor woman was just looking for some carrots and was wondering who the hell she was.

🤣 I've no skin in the game for the albums chart battle, but this made me laugh

Omg I saw this too tbh. But who the hell is Shania??? And how do you pronounce it, like Shan-ee-ah? Spanish namd?

She’s done one signing in HMV Westfield today for 400 people and went into Fopp in Covent Garden yesterday to film content and sign the vinyl and CDs they had.
