February 10, 20232 yr I think Dandy is right with this. I didn't get round to entering this one, but part of that is because I find it very difficult with songs pre 2000 that are relatively unknown. The first contest fell in the sweet spot of fitting likely the least known 'old' act that I'd say I listen to. Personally I've never really seen the point in finding songs specifically to send to a contest, if I don't know and like anything that fits a theme then I won't enter - was the same for the recent CB contest but I know others do. I wouldn't have thought of Future Sound of London or the Chemical Brothers (certainly not that one) for this as I'd say they were too well known for me to enter (not that they necessarily shouldn't be entered, just personal preference for what I'd send) but Roygbiv was one of my two options. February 10, 20232 yr Just to confirm our thought process as well, Orbital are a much bigger name than LFO or FSOL etc. we’re happy to let them in (as we have) but there is no reason to have to submit one of their biggest hits as they literally have decades of material to choose from. PETROL is a perfectly acceptable replacement though (assuming it was the same person, only Jade would know that)
February 10, 20232 yr Personally I've never really seen the point in finding songs specifically to send to a contest, if I don't know and like anything that fits a theme then I won't enter It just means your own entry is as much a discovery to you as (most of) the other entries! I'd definitely never have found the song I entered if I wasn't specifically looking for it for this contest so I like that the theme forced me to search for it.
February 13, 20232 yr Might not be able to make the listening session unfortunately - sorry if I’ve missed this but what time is it happening? Is anyone else finding the playlist more chilled than they expected overall? I think because I had The Prodigy in my head as an example artist I imagined we’d be getting more ravey stuff. Not a criticism just an observation. :)

February 14, 20232 yr There are definitely a couple of entries here that are a mental challenge to even endure!
February 14, 20232 yr Sorry I missed this… I am so intrigued by which ones you’re referring to Dobbo!
February 15, 20232 yr Sent my votes now, there were 11 songs I wanted to vote for so apols to the one that missed out! The 10+ minute songs mostly didn't connect with me as much as I wanted them to tbh but still enjoyed everything well enough that it wasn't dragging or anything ~ (and one song in particular I really could have done with being a lot longer!)
February 19, 20232 yr My votes are in. I think this is the first BJ contest (excluding single-artist ones) where I haven't given any song a score lower than 50 out of 100 :o
February 21, 20232 yr Author Got votes in from 50% of participants now and some sideline ones from Doctor B. Still four days to get them in!
February 24, 20232 yr Voted. Contrary to my earlier comment I did actually know one of these songs (just not by name) and I really expected to give it the 12 but there was another absolute diamond in this list which easily surpassed it <3
February 24, 20232 yr Author Thanks for all the votes so far, it's really helped me to get ahead with prep! If it's okay, I think I'm going to extend the deadline to Sunday 26th February 23:59, with results the following day. Sunday already looks jam packed with BuzzJack events (#1 albums session followed by BJSC final session straight after) so I think it'd make more sense to go with a quieter day and give people the whole weekend to vote
