April 4, 20232 yr Ooh I didn't think to consider Maren Morris, not sure I could've fit her in my list but glad to see her here regardless! 'The Bones' is a rare example of an excellent country track that should have been a UK hit!

April 5, 20232 yr Love Jem's 'They' so much, Jamelia had a few great songs ('See it in a Boy's eyes') my fave, 'Soulmate' my fave Tash Bedders but my favourite song from all of the above females has to be Benee's 'Supalonely' - that reminded me of early Pandemic when living alone by the Harbourside in Bristol and this strong reflected the strange, dreamlike, new way of life. Such a cute unique song.
April 5, 20232 yr Lol at me seeing Victoria Beckham and thinking she was probably the chartjack nomination ooops
April 5, 20232 yr What happened to Jem? I bought her debut and was great, but cannot recall a follow up Natasha Beddingfield and Jamelia are great too, surprised NB isn't higher.
April 5, 20232 yr A lot of artists these past couple of days who I'm not hugely invested in but do enjoy a song or two, e.g. 'They' by Jem, 'Youth' by Foxes, 'Glamorous' for Fergie, 'Unwritten' by Natasha and 'See It In A Boy's Eyes' by Jamelia. Surprised that Fergie isn't higher! Sharon from EastEnders :cheeseblock:
April 5, 20232 yr What happened to Jem? I bought her debut and was great, but cannot recall a follow up I gave Jem 29 points the last time this poll was done in 2019. I didn't vote this time. She has released two more albums since her debut, the third one was in 2016. She does have large gaps between albums but there was a new single put out last year so maybe another album isn't too far away. I know she was studying film direction as that's one thing she wants to do in the future.
April 5, 20232 yr A literal Jamelia slot :cheeseblock: BENEE is a decent shout from the last couple of sections, I'm not really into her brand of zoomer pop for the most part but I've been a fan of surprisingly many of her songs.

April 6, 20232 yr Oh Mary Hopkin has a lovely voice, I really like 'Those Were The Days' and 'Goodbye' by her - both produced by Paul McCartney. 'O Superman' by Laurie Anderson is an idiosyncratic early 80s gem *.*
April 6, 20232 yr Oh I do genuinely stan that addition by chartjack (based on the one song but still)
April 6, 20232 yr Mel B so much potential wasted by lack of focus and direction :( The first four singles were all strong I want you back, Word up, Tell me, Feels so good... her album deserved better off the back of those alone but not releasing Hotter instead of Lullaby was a blip, easily her best song on that album! Jamelia I am surprised at being so low, not sure if she made my top 40 or not but she was on my initial list before I cut it down. Some great singles but her albums never hit for me I got both Thank you and Walk with me and only listened to them a couple of times. Alexandra Burke, another one who was doing badly, she had a great start but like with Leona the label had no idea what to do with her beyond the initial campaign.
