Two more of my votes going there (Keri Hilson and Madness) though neither of them are ones I am hugely invested in.

It didn't occur to me that 'Dear Jessie' was the same as the Rollergirl song of that name - I do like Rollergirl's version but don't think I've heard Madonna's. (I didn't get around to listening to the songs I didn't recognise oops but I definitely will do for the final, assuming that'll work the same as the #4 one where we have to rank every song anyway)

'Manchild' is the best song to go out so far! Absolutely love that and 'Buffalo Stance', the production on both of those songs is phenomenal. She still released some good stuff later in her career but nothing came close to matching the quality of those two singles.

35. The Cure - Lullaby 216pts

Writers - Roger O'Donnell, Boris Williams, Simon Gallup, Robert Smith, Lol Tolhurst, Porl Thompson

Top points - perrobueno 24, Jade 23, dandy* 23

Lullaby was The Cure's highest charting single. Their other three top 10 hits peaked at 6, 7 and 8. The video won the Video of the Year award at the 1990 Brits.

Awwww no The Cure are the best to drop out of this semi yet. Hoped that would be safe for a place in the final. :(
As I expected, I lost Neneh and The Cure. Pretty sure 'Heat Waves' won't make it either, but I actually thought it would make it lower than these two.
The Cure are one of the few mainstream bands I've just never been able to connect with. 'Friday I'm In Love' is obviously a classic and 'Close To You' was good too but outside of those, I've just never managed to get into them at all.

33. Alanis Morissette - Thank U 216pts

Writers - Alanis Morissette, Glen Ballard

Top points - Bjork 25, Torple 25, rio309 23

From the same year comes Alanis Morissette's highest charting single which she wrote on a trip to India. It had the same number of points and votes as Life Is A Flower so it wins the tie-break by having two 25 point scores.

32. Glass Animals - Heat Waves 218pts

Heat Waves first entered the top 100 in October 2020, peaking at number 5 a year later. It re-entered the top 100 today having dropped out last week. It has so far spent 113 weeks on the chart. The Oxford band have not had any other hit singles.

Didn't expect Thank U would make it but as we got closer my hopes were growing. Sad to see it fall. On the other hand, delighted Heat Waves hasn't made it. Painful to listen to after so much overplay.

31. Wankelmut & Emma Louise - My Head Is A Jungle 219pts

Writers - Emma Louise Lobb, Jacob Dilßner, Taan Newjam

Top points - An-Ge-La Bassett 25, coi 25, Daan 24

This is a remix of the Australian singer Emma Louise's single, 'Jungle', by the German producer Wankelmut. It's his second top 40 hit.

'Life Is A Flower' and 'Thank U' would have been in my points had they not fallen out here oops. Both great songs and the Alanis one unique for going down the street naked in the video lol.

Life is a Flower was one of my favourites here, such a feelgood song for any occasion (slightly dodgy Catcher in the Rye lyric aside :kink:). Lullaby was also great, albeit not one of my favourites from that album.

I'm sure I'd probably like 'Lullaby' but I didn't vote for it just due to lack of familiarity oop. 'My Head Is A Jungle' got a handful of points from me but no major losses today really.

(btw the version of 'My Head Is A Jungle' that was a hit was the MK remix)

Four great songs in a row there! I've always had a massive soft spot for 'Life Is A Flower' (and Ace of Base in general actually), so a shame to see that go out early. 'Thank U' is decent but far from Alanis' best work. 'Heat Waves' was great when it first came out but is ridiculously overplayed by this point. 'My Head Is A Jungle' still sounds kinda fresh tbh - at least the MK Remix.

Hmm, maybe Heat Overplayves would have fared better in last year's #4s rate after all, had it just managed those 2-3 sales to overtake Central Cee in its first week at #5. It's still a great tune for me.

My top 5 from this semi are still intact, hope they all hang on...
