I think one of the things that will help Mae is that she is playing on home soil - the arena is gonna BOUNCE to this

Yeah, it will be at least quite something to have a host entry that isn't a mood-killing dirge (Israel 2019, for example).

Yes the Fan Scorboard is completely biased and is based on people voting for their own country to some extent and they will always favour female pop songs into rehearsals when they are predicted to flop. Last year Spainiards managed to get Chanel to #1 after she won Benidorm Fest.

I think 17th - 25th is the ceiling based on the studio version.

I mean I agree with you there are flaws in using it as a predictive tool but that might not be the most illustrative example :kink: In fact of the 2022 top 10 ranking it's Netherlands that stands out as the outlier from 3rd there to 11th in reality.

17th is probably being too generous. I'd say 19th at best - 26th

You mean the Chanel that came 3rd? 2nd on the public vote? And if russia hadn’t have invaded would have won? That Chanel?

Most of Mae's listeners are for her viral dance track and Sigala's dance track has increased that number over the last few days.

In comparison Alessandra's listeners are all for her Eurovision song.

I don't think it's bad!

What immediately jumps out to me on first listen is how (deliberately?) similar the tempo and instrumentation is to last year's SloMo by Chanel which hoovered up most of the upbeat pop vote.

This time last year, a few of us, including me, said we had a winner on our hands! If not for the invasion and being sabotaged by Poland being right after us, with the man DELIBERATELY tryinf to copy Sam  , we woulda done it!

No songs like One, Two, Where Are You?, Slo Mo oe Spaceman this year. Guess Loreen will walk it.

yes, Better Days counts towards Mae’s total figure there and she wasn’t the primary artist on the song so I wouldn’t put too much stock in that

Yes but it was the big Spanish fandom that put her top of the Fan Scoreboard and voted her to the top of the ESC 250. Countries that had bops such as Austria, France and Albania were the top 10 and they all did terrible. Neither Spain nor the UK were fan favourites until rehearsals and other objective measures are a better indicator. Fans said Space Man would come bottom 5 as he was a beige man when the other measures said he would do well because the song wasn't typical chart music, it was vocally challenging and his background meant he was a great reliable performer.

To be fair, I think sending Birdy would have been a far worse decision than this for one.

Rina would have just been SO perfect in every way with 'Holy' though :(

Agreed I will never got over Rina not being picked and them going with the most beige Love Island-music type “pop girl”

Now #1 on iTunes - hopefully streaming will be strong too and it can become a decent sized hit.

And that’s exactly what we need to get songwriters interested, if they can be almost guaranteed a hit in the home country rather than the recent smashes from the likes of Michael Rice, James Newman, SuRie, Lucie Jones etc., then they will be more inclined in putting better songs forward.

I don’t think this is terrible. It’s no Rina, but it’s definitely top half of this dire year. At least it provided another song for Loreen to beat

A lot better than I was expecting! Might not be the smash everyone wants but it kinda has a Mabel-esque vibe to it?

Sometimes all you need is a fun catchy hook and more than decent production

The streaming version of this has the god-awful spoken word part omitted which I’m hoping will be the case for the performance.

She’s currently sitting at 9th on the MyEurovisionScoreboard app which is good going for a song that was only revealed earlier today.
