The song was also a lot more popular with the Spotify listeners (thanks to TikTok) it sits on 86m streams (80m more than Michael Rice) so clearly evidence that UK public should never have been trusted to choose the entry

Lucie Jones so should've performed this version instead:

Much better!!!!

Freaks would probably have done well too! It is old people watching snd voting in the UK selection shows, and it shows in the boring ballads and cheesy , was-once-Eurovision-style pop. They should have had a jury to overrule the public on thr Rice fiasco and then sent Freaks.

The BBC didn’t help either because they really pushed Michael Rice’s version of Bigger Than Us over the other entry’s. I pretty sure they did that just to give a bit of promotion to All Together Now which funnily enough was due to start and Michael won the previous series.
SPACE MAN and I Wrote a Song are head and shoulders above anything we've sent in SO long. I quite enjoyed Joe & Jake but I agree that it was like a 1D song without as much punch to it. Molly's song appealed at the time but I think it actually sounds really cheap and I can't really enjoy it nowadays (the hype of her being bigged up to do quite well definitely swept me up in 2014). Lucie's song is pleasant, but I'd struggle to say anything particularly good about the other UK entries of semi-recent times. Embers was just bland and the performance didn't do anything to elevate it into something memorable. Electro Velvet actually made me feel embarrassed to be British x
'I Wrote A Song' is definitely growing on me the more I hear. I get it's really generic etc but it does sound right for Eurovision which is why it was picked obviously and am more confident it won't be bottom 5 unless it's a dud live performance.

This actually sounds like a top 10 :cheeseblock:

God, I've never quite looked properly at our list of entries over the last ten years, tragic :') I would say one is great (Space Man), three decent-ish (Storm, Children of the Universe, Never Give Up (the former definitely was never as good as it could've been and performed poorly whereas the latter was a dull sounding song performed very well)), one standout if not entirely for the right reasons (Still in Love With You), and the rest are literally not even worth commenting on, half of them I'm pretty sure I don't recall how they go. Depending on how the performance goes, Mae could easily rank at 2nd on that list!

Mad to think a Eurovision song is getting such a push and playlisted by major radio stations  Probably shows the influence of an Agency rather than the song itself, but imagine 2 years ago thinking a UK Eurovision song would be playlisted by Capital. You'd have been on shrooms.

Clearly a big opportunity for the right aritist for a career lauchpad and can't see any bottom 5 entries for a while.

Totally this - major radio stations and streaming platforms onboard along with mass media coverage.

I’ve always said if we can turn this into a career launchpad for artists then more artists and writers will be inclined to put themselves forward with stronger material if in return they are at least guaranteed a decent sized hit and media exposure, most acts over the past 10+ years couldn’t even keep their record deal after the contest let alone get a hit with the song they were entering.

Only would actively listen to the first 3 but Lucie's is fine also.

I love this now I’m over the disappointment of it not being Rina, these kind of songs usually grow on me anyway as well once I get over them being a bit basic, sometimes you just need a basic bop tbh!

Most of all, we’ve sent a song that would be (and is becoming) a hit regardless of Eurovision and represents our music industry, and that I think is what we should always do at Eurovision. If we can’t get behind the song ourselves, how can we expect Europe to? I’m still not sure on how it will do on the night but when I listened to all the songs together to rank them, this stands out as one the few female pop bops, and it’s not like a song like Poland’s really stands up to this anyway so it’s not competition
