Voting has now closed so let's get on with the results! We start the top 40 with...

#40. Harry Styles - Matilda

UK chart run: 63-64-56-57-{37}-49-49-56-66-61->10

Points: 12 | Positive votes: 03 | Negative votes: 00

Harry Styles had a great year in 2022 peaking with the release of his album which also saw him have all three of the top positions in the singles. This album track eventually became chart eligible and sneaked in a top 40 week.

#39. The 1975 - Oh Caroline

UK chart run: {29}-54->2

Points: 13 | Positive votes: 04 | Negative votes: 00

The first of two tracks for The 1975 here, Oh Caroline was simultaneously released as a single alongside their album release which saw it get a top 40 position. The album kept up their perfect run of #1 albums.

#38. The Kid Laroi - Thousand Miles

UK chart run: {21}-29-37-52-53-60-60-63-75->9

Points: 15 | Positive votes: 03 | Negative votes: 01

Inbetween album cycles in 2022 The Kid Laroi put out this track which just missed out on a top 20 position - he'd eventually return to the top 20 this year.

#37. Kendrick Lamar - The Heart Part 5

UK chart run: {24}->1

Points: 16 | Positive votes: 03 | Negative votes: 02

Finally returning for real Kendrick Lamar put out this track to hype up the forthcoming album release - it of course dropped out the following week when the album dropped.

#36. Years & Years & Galantis - Sweet Talker

UK chart run: 36-36-41-30-28-{26}-31-33-74R(3)->9

Points: 21 | Positive votes: 04 | Negative votes: 00

Following on from last year's 'Starstruck' with a slightly bigger hit with the help of Galantis on production duty, the song also assisted Years & Years to have another #1 album.

#35. Mimi Webb - Ghost of You

UK chart run: {23}-27-29-29-28-28-30-39-63-36R(4)-42-56-64->13

Points: 25 | Positive votes: 05 | Negative votes: 00

Following on from a big top 10 hit Mimi's follow-up struggled in the chart only making #74, however that's proved to just be a fluke dip as this managed to be a middling hit and she now currently has a top 20 hit.

#34. D4VD - Romantic Homicide

UK chart run: 48-46-41-31-{22}-25-32-31-35->9

Points: 27 | Positive votes: 06 | Negative votes: 00

American alt-RnB singer D4VD ('David') had his breakthrough hit late last year thanks to TikTok exposure, and perhaps surprisingly he's already had a follow-up top 40 hit so we'll see him again here next year.

#33. Leah Kate - 10 Things I Hate About You

UK chart run: 56-42-{30}-31-30-34-36-41-37-44-48-54-56->13

Points: 28 | Positive votes: 04 | Negative votes: 03

Jumping on the recent pop-punk revival trend Leah Kate managed to get this going viral on TikTok although this was quite a controversial track on the forum with a fair bit of love and hate.

#32. The Weeknd - How Do I Make You Love Me?

UK chart run: {22}->1

Points: 29 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 00

An album track taken from his surprise release Dawn FM which gave him another #1 album although it wasn't as big a seller as the previous.

#31. Rosa Linn - Snap

UK chart run: 67-43-26-26-28-26-23-25-{21}-23-22-26-29-71->14

Points: 29 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 00

A surprise TikTok hit for Rosa Linn who'd represented Armenia in Eurovision a few months before this took off in the chart eventually having better longevity than the UK's own entry.

SNAP, How Do I Make You Love Me and Ghost Of YOu are all songs i liked a lot, would have liked them to all be a bit higher in here but its fine!

Glad it didn't affect its position but LOL at 2 people giving negative points to 'The Heart Part 5'. Deserved much better obvz but I guess it did well to qualify especially since I forgot to vote in the semis!

Meanwhile negative points did make a difference to Leah Kate, hooray x

Also lost d4vd and The Weeknd from my votes already but the former is higher than I expected really and honestly I had kind of forgotten the latter even made the top 40, quite a shame how little impact the 'Dawn FM' era made in general compared to Abel's biggest eras, it was a patchy album imo but still had several great moments on it including this one.

Shame to see 'Romantic Homicide' and 'How Do I Make You Love Me?' dropping out already! Kendrick too, he was next in line for my votes.

#30. Dean Lewis - How Do I Say Goodbye

UK chart run: 72-43-35-31-{23}-24-24-24-33-55-53-57-23R(2)-26-26-31-33-32->18

Points: 30 | Positive votes: 05 | Negative votes: 00

Released as a tribute to his old man it became the (long-awaited?) second hit for the Aussie singer, however he couldn't quite follow 2018's 'Be Alright' into the top 20 - being unlucky enough to stall at #23 before and after the Xmas rush.

#29. Lady Gaga - Hold My Hand

UK chart run: 51-60-45-{24}-24-25-27-27-30-27-38-45-42-52-52-54->16

Points: 31 | Positive votes: 08 | Negative votes: 01

Having sat 2021 out of the chart Lady Gaga came back with this, taken from the OST of Top Gun 2. Soft rock ballads have never been Buzzjack's forte from her though, besides 'Shallow', so it's not a big surprise she sits quite low here. Expect 'Bloody Mary' to finish a little bit higher next year. The song did fairly well for itself anyhow given it was quickly overshadowed by OneRepublic's song from the same OST.

#28. Doja Cat - Vegas

UK chart run: 63-52-43-35-27-25-{24}-25-27-64-67-67->12

Points: 36 | Positive votes: 08 | Negative votes: 00

Another OST track here, this one was taken from the Elvis biopic. It oddly had a few non-Elvis songs in it such as this – although this featured a sample of a different cover version of 'Hound Dog'. It was one of 3 hits Doja had last year but her only as a lead performer.

#27. Arctic Monkeys - Body Paint

UK chart run: 26-54-60-{22}-67->5

Points: 37 | Positive votes: 05 | Negative votes: 00

A new Arctic Monkeys album gave them a further three top 40 hits, two of which qualified for this rundown. Of course, their actual biggest hit of the year was a 2007 album track, however this was their highest-peaking officially.

#26. Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa - Sweetest Pie

UK chart run: {31}-43-48-55-69-63-68-73->8

Points: 39 | Positive votes: 05 | Negative votes: 01

Getting the high accolade of "second-most stable second-week in the US Billboard chart for a 2022 release up to that point of the year", 'Sweetest Pie' however only managed a solitary week in the UK top 40 and Megan has yet to reach the chart since.

#25. Nicky Youre & Dazy - Sunroof

UK chart run: 71-63-65-60-43-47-48-49-41-33-{29}-31-34-31-34-35-37->17

Points: 39 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 01

One of the year's zoomer-pop TikTok hits which was quite bigger in America but could only settle for a middling top 40 chart run here. There doesn't seem to be any interest in either performer outside of this song in general.

#24. Tom Grennan - All These Nights

UK chart run: 57-59-61-58-51-60-64-{37}-58-60-57-67-71->13

Points: 41 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 00

Tom Grennan managed two solo top 40 hits in the year, out of those only this managed to qualify to this countdown although it was the lesser hit.

#23. Fred Again.. & Swedish House Mafia feat. Future - Turn On the Lights Again..

UK chart run: 48-47-47-40-34-30-30-36-33-33-{27}-37-41-42-51-55->16

Points: 41 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 00

Fred Again managed two top 40 hits, with this being the first of them to appear in the rundown and it was also the bigger chart hit. It sampled an old Future song which probably helped give it a leg up the chart.

#22. The 1975 - I'm In Love With You

UK chart run: {29}-59-68-34R(4)-59->5

Points: 42 | Positive votes: 06 | Negative votes: 00

And here was the more popular of the two The 1975 hits of the year, managing two weeks top 40 as it was a pre-album single release.

#21. Shawn Mendes - When You're Gone

UK chart run: {32}-45-51-62-71-75-73->7

Points: 42 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 00

Shawn Mendes doesn't seem half as popular as he used to be however he managed to get this to spend a solitary week in the top 40 which was better than his last couple ever got.

#20. Charlie Puth - Light Switch

UK chart run: 39-42-41-40-31-35-40-42-34-31-30-26-{25}-27-32-40->16

Points: 42 | Positive votes: 08 | Negative votes: 00

Charlie Puth had been graciously absent from the chart for almost five years before he snapped up a TikTok viral hit with this giving him a middling hit.

#19. Southstar - Miss You

UK chart run: 62-{23}-27-30-32-35-53->7

Points: 43 | Positive votes: 10 | Negative votes: 00

A viral hit for the German newcomer producer based off of an Oliver Tree song, it managed to spend a month in the top 40 but was ultimately overshadowed from the get-go by a cash-in copy by Oliver Tree's record label and Robin Schulz. Opinion was fairly split on which version was better with a good few not liking either.

#18. Latto & Mariah Carey feat. DJ Khaled - Big Energy

UK chart run: 57-48-41-33-28-{21}-23-21-21-23-24-30-32-35-26-28-35-37-39-38-42-48->22

Points: 46 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 01

American rapper Latto got her breakthrough hit with this with the help of it heavily sampling Mariah Carey's 'Fantasy'. It was a big top 10 hit on Billboard however it was unlucky enough to stall at #21 for three weeks here. DJ Khaled is also here for no good reason.

#17. Metallica - Master of Puppets

UK chart run: 47-{22}-26-31-35->5

Points: 46 | Positive votes: 10 | Negative votes: 00

Thanks to prominent usage in a pivotal Stranger Things scene one of Metallica's fan favourites belatedly became a chart hit bringing metal to the top 40 which doesn't often happen. It became their first hit since 2008 although the song dates from the 80s of course.

#16. Diplo & Miguel - Don't Forget My Love

UK chart run: 73-54-60-48-41-39-47-44-40-40-35-35-38-42-44-32-{30}-40-40-40-36-41-49-57->24

Points: 46 | Positive votes: 11 | Negative votes: 00

Diplo quietly racked up a lengthy chart run with this track which also brought Miguel back to the chart after many years - another piano house effort from him following on from the 2020 Paul Woolford collab.

Sad at a few of the positions here, expected more for some

I was hoping for Turn On The Light Again to do a fair bit better but the rest of it seems about what I'd expect

My least favourite (Latto) and almost but not quite favourite (Metallica) finishing level on points. Glad I gave Latto the -2 so Metallica finished ahead!

#15. Seafret - Atlantis

UK chart run: 74-68-70-50-40-41-{38}-41-38-50->10

Points: 47 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 00

A 2015 indie-pop song that went TikTok viral allowing the British duo to scrape the top 40 for a few weeks, Buzzjack found it quite pleasant overall.

#14. Lil Nas X - Star Walkin'

UK chart run: 55-42-{40}-44-43-45-50-49-64->9

Points: 48 | Positive votes: 07 | Negative votes: 00

Only just about managing to scrape a top 40 position, although that's not bad for what was a throwaway release for a video game soundtrack. Lil Nas X otherwise had a quiet year following from 2021's debut album.

#13. Wilkinson feat. Issey Cross - Used to This

UK chart run: 71-51-54-44-39-37-41-40-{33}-35-39-38-36-42-49-52-55-57-63->19

Points: 52 | Positive votes: 10 | Negative votes: 01

Proving that the genre of DnB was due to have somewhat of a chart comeback, Wilkinson managed to get a first hit in 8 years, and his biggest since 'Afterglow'. It was my personal favourite on the list so a bit of a shame it couldn't quite make the top 10 here. Sub Focus followed a similar path at the start of this year so here's hoping he can do a bit better in the 2023 contest.

#12. Becky Hill & Galantis - Run

UK chart run: 34-34-28-25-22-{21}-25-22-28-35-38->11

Points: 53 | Positive votes: 11 | Negative votes: 02

Becky Hill managed to extend the shelf-life of her album in the chart of course by tagging on further tracks to it which started with this - quite unfortunate to stall just outside the top 20 for a few weeks really as it was her strongest release of the year for me. Its two haters push it out of the top 10 in the contest.

#11. SZA - Nobody Gets Me

UK chart run: {27}-49-29R(2)-33-34-53-62R(2)-73->8

Points: 56 | Positive votes: 08 | Negative votes: 00

Dropping her long awaited album at the end of the year, SZA just about managed to qualify for 2022 eligibility with this which quickly got overshadowed by 'Kill Bill' as a single choice although some here preferred this.

#10. Arctic Monkeys - There'd Better Be A Mirrorball

UK chart run: 38-26-56-48R(3)-{25}R(3)-75->6

Points: 56 | Positive votes: 10 | Negative votes: 03

Here's the song Arctic Monkeys made their return with and it also happens to be the best received track from the new album here, it starts off the top 10 even with it having three haters. It didn't quite manage to reach the top 20 due to the poor timing of its release.

#09. Em Beihold - Numb Little Bug

UK chart run: 46-38-46-36-31-28-{25}-29-28-29-32-33-39->13

Points: 58 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 00

This became the breakthrough hit for the LA-based singer-songwriter having been assisted by TikTok. She later assisted Stephen Sanchez to getting a top 20 earlier this year but this couldn't get that far.

#08. Billie Eilish - The 30th

UK chart run: {33}-61->2

Points: 58 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 00

#07. Billie Eilish - TV

UK chart run: {23}-53-67-58R(13)-57-65->6

Points: 63 | Positive votes: 09 | Negative votes: 02

Billie Eilish had a rather quiet year but still managed to release a two-track EP - 'TV' became the bigger hit of the two and was also the better-received here clearly although not by a big margin as the two finish together - although only due to a couple of haters. Last year she had 'Oxytocin' finish in a medalist position.

#06. Fred Again.. - Delilah (Pull Me Out Of This)

UK chart run: 71-{35}-38-59-72R(7)-53-63->7

Points: 65 | Positive votes: 11 | Negative votes: 00

Comfortably the favourite of Buzzjack's from Fred Again here, his track named after its guest vocalist Delilah managed a couple of top 40 weeks with the help of the release of the album it featured on. Fred was also deemed by Buzzjack to be the best dance producer of the year. We do still have one or two dance tracks in the top 5 however.

So remaining we have:

Charli XCX feat. Rina Sawayama - Beg for You

Ghost - Mary On A Cross

KALUSH - Stefania

My Chemical Romance - The Foundations of Decay

Tiësto & Charli XCX - Hot In It

Come on Ghost! :wub:
