54th - We Will Rock You (with Five, 2000)

Score: 54

Average score: 2.70

Highest: 18 - Smint

Lowest: 0 - 11 voters

Polyhex entry:

29/07/2000 Five And Queen We Will Rock You 1 {1}-3-6-10-13-18-24-37-51-49-64-75-72R(3)->13

"We Will Rock You" was the second and final chart topper for Five and the sixth and final (as it stands) for Queen thanks to the boy group's 2000 reimagining of the song. It's the only version to chart in its own right as the original was the B Side to "We Are The Champions" in the UK. Brian May and Roger Taylor both played on the five re-working, a fact I'm sure they'd be delighted to see I'm sharing again.

This is the only common link between the last rate I ran and this one - as it finished 40th in the final of the Worst #1 Ever competition. I think I said then it's not dreadful but it has a rather unappealing schoolyard vibe to it. Remarkably this came as high as 29th in the BBC Queen poll, although I suspect some of those voters must have thought it was the original song as it doesn't exactly strike me as a likely Radio 2 favourite.

I didn't mind the Miami remix of AOBTD and the Rah Mix of 'Under Pressure' was OK too but obviously the original is leagues superior and I guess this one was pointless in reflection.

I mean I only ranked C-Lebrity that high as I'd heard it in full and didn't dislike it, and didn't just go off the previews  I wouldn't say it's great, though I didn't mind it. Should obviously not have happened though x

I do actually quite like the Another One Bites the Dust remix, but I'm pleased they're out as they feel a bit unnecessary. Five's We Will Rock You remains utterly reprehensible.

Muppets top 40 on the BBC poll :cheeseblock:

So everything released after John Deacon left has now gone, with the exception of The Muppets  wonder how high they'll go...

No real losses, I thought Wyclef deserved a bit better, but that version certainly isn't essential.

The Five thing is way too high tbh

All pretty agreeable so far. I didn't think 'C-Lebrity' was awful by any means but fair to say Paul Rodgers is no Freddie Mercury. And all the others so far are just varying degrees of inferior to the original versions (still a bit baffled at the Wyclef remix charting higher than the original).

I am quite shocked 'Another One Bites The Dust' was as low as 18th in the BBC poll, even behind 'Fat Bottomed Girls', offended x

what is crazy is that We Will Rock You was never a single proper and was relegated to a b-side!

I've been re-listening to the Queen playlist loads since I did the rate (just making the original deadline) and would never have given the Queen/Five one 18 points now. It still tanked in this rate so no loss really.

C-Lebrity isn't too bad tbh.

50th - Body Language (1982)

Score: 168

Average score: 8.40

Highest: 38 - ...ready for it

Lowest: 0 - 6 voters

Polyhex entry:

01/05/1982 Queen Body Language 25 33-{25}-31-41-62-69->6

And so this is the first song to drop out that is undeniably a bona fide Queen hit. It was the follow up to the lead single and chart topper "Under Pressure", and a surprising change of direction towards a more funk than glam rock type of sound. The video may have been hot and sweaty but the song itself was received rather coldly by the public and was one of their worst performing 80s singles.

49th - Bohemian Rhapsody (with The Muppets, 2009)

Score: 169

Average score: 8.45

Highest: 48 - dandy*

Lowest: 0 - 13 voters

Polyhex entry:

26/12/2009 Queen And The Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody 32 {32}-54->2

This started out a Youtube video which went viral in November 2009, before the single was made available to download the following month.

The majority of voters gave this 0 but a few substantial scores ensured it reached the Top 50. It hasn't managed to replicate its 31st position in the BBC poll (though again you wonder how many of those votes might have been people not reading the options carefully enough).

48th - No One But You (Only The Good Die Young), 1998

Score: 179

Average score: 8.95

Lowest: 0 - 5 voters

Polyhex entry:

17/01/1998 Queen No-One But You/Tie Your Mother Down 13 {13}-28-43-68->4

The last single recorded before John Deacon's departure, this was released as a double A side with "Tie Your Mother Down" which had already been a single in 1977. Brian May wrote it as a tribute to Freddie Mercury and others gone too soon. This did slightly better in the BBC poll where it placed 38th.

Bo Rhap with Muppets is the one acceptable alternate version here, still unironically better than the G4 cover version x

Animal's 'Mama' part and 'Do not like your jokes' still come to mind sometimes :cheeseblock:
