Posted March 12, 20232 yr A little bit of fun, spurred from discussion in the 'Confessions' album thread - which do you prefer out of 'Get Together' and 'Jump'? C2kcbWk5Pfc jitBGtljjMs
March 12, 20232 yr Jump is one of the best songs on Confessions, whilst Get Together is one of the worst. I know there is a lot of love for GT, but I just don't get it.
March 12, 20232 yr Definitely has to be Get Together. It's an anomaly within her back catalogue, I don't think it fits at all well within any compilation of her singles but as a stand alone song it is absolutely glorious... the subtle journey it takes you on with the ever changing production - always going to slightly new places without losing a sense of coherence is rather special indeed.
March 12, 20232 yr Up until last year would have been Jump, hands down, but now it’s Get Together that edges the win for me. Both are great songs, but Jump sounds a little bit simple and hasn’t aged as well. If the album version of Get Together was the version she performed on the tour, it would be a much easier win.

Oooo yes the tour version goes off and then some
March 13, 20232 yr Both Jump and GT are 2 of my very favourite M tracks, maybe Jump just has the edge for me.
March 15, 20232 yr Author Definitely has to be Get Together. Love this description! I think there's something very "fluid" about the production and the structure - there's verses and chorus but they come across more like a series of hooks; no one part particularly takes focus and it all flows into each other so seamlessly. The explosion of synths towards the end is such a rush and a moment well-earned. As I mentioned previously, 'Jump' isn't one I love quite on the same level as I did before but it's still an undeniable, joyful bop!
