May 12, 20232 yr That running order was expected for Sweden vs Finland. Sweden HAD to be 9th spot because the staging takes longer than 40 seconds to set up so they need the break to do it. So blame SVT for making elaborate staging that she’s not later than Finland x All seriousness though, I don’t think it changes much because I don’t think they’re eating one another’s vote much and the juries will still love Loreen from wherever she performs. I think it definitely throws Austria out of the top 10 and Croatia into the top 10.
May 12, 20232 yr I’m sad because that just guts Austrias deserved placing and overinflates Croatia to a place it has no business being. I think Israel are a threat from there and if Mae pulls off a great jury and great final vocal then weirdly the UK is also a potential threat - but that hinges entirely on Maes vocals. Because she’s not just lip syncing her chorus like Blanka, she needs to sell it with a much stronger and fuller vocal than that SF2 one
May 12, 20232 yr Croatia absolutely merits a top 10 place. It's among the most inventive and musical songs this year. The verses are flat but the part where it goes all over the place is genius. There's great harmonies in the operatics and there's a really strong melody in the "Onaj mali psihopat, Mali, podli psihopat" part. Plus the singer can sing very well when he doesn't have a cold - like he had during semi 1.
May 12, 20232 yr so nice to have israel closing the show and Slovenia, Croatia + UK disqualified for being 'bloody shit' xo
May 12, 20232 yr Austria are kinda screwed now. Televotes for opening entries since 2016 2016 Belgium 51 2017 Israel 5 2018 Ukraine 119 2019 Malta 20 2021 Cyprus 44 2022 Czechia 5
May 12, 20232 yr Argument as EBU won't let Ukraine's Pres. Zelensky make a pre-recorded message. It contravenes their anti political message. Sunak and Starmer have both said he should be allowed to say a few words but the EBU remains firm.
May 13, 20232 yr I get it. But I think his message should be the Segway into the votes being revealed (after they say lines are closed etc.. but here’s a special message from President Zelenskyy etc…) would be a nice touch tbh and then they can’t moan about “sympathy voting” or whatever.
May 13, 20232 yr I can’t think of a single time the leader of the host country has had any form of role at the Eurovision final in the past
May 13, 20232 yr Yeah, I can't see a way his speech could even be integrated into the show in any fashion that would work well. It's one thing to work with broad European politics in the space surrounding the show itself - which is why banning Russia works and why you have the unavoidable idea that politics did play some factor in Ukraine winning. but in the show on the night? nah
May 13, 20232 yr Plus the hosting is full of Ukrainian culture and soft power - that's what they're getting out of this, that's why Eurovision is important to them, how it validates them as a nation. The president on the front lines, while doing a great job, appearing on an entertainment show, doesn't put any positives towards that image.
May 13, 20232 yr I get why he would want to be included but ultimately it’s the right decision for him not to be, whilst the UK etc., are allies of Ukraine not every country or everyone performing and watching would feel the same way so I guess it’s better to celebrate Ukrainian culture and showcase that to the world instead.
