Just missing the podium we have the Danish-Norwegian Europop band Aqua with their signature song. The group, who originally formed in 1989 under the name Joyspeed, switched up their style and sound in the mid 90s to bubblegum pop where they achieved domestic commercial success. Barbie Girl was released as the third single from their debut album and blew up worldwide, topping many charts including the UK where it spent a month at #1. It is currently within the top 20 selling singles of all time based on paid-for sales only. Despite having all the hallmarks of being a one-hit wonder the group would score 2 more UK #1 singles and 4 additional top 40 hits.
