March 21, 20232 yr :w00t: what a pick!! I only checked out this album for the first time last year and it had a profound effect on me, I listened to it over and over and over :kink: Definitely worthy of all the hype. This presentation is a nice touch too! (forgot that this was released in 1997, just looked up other albums that came out in the same year, as I was ofc born that year and it was pretty stacked *.*)
March 21, 20232 yr Author I think I promised on one of the listen throughs that I'd pick this so I thought I ought to stick to my word... I do hope there will be a few people who won't have heard it in full before and, if not, hopefully it will still make for an enjoyable listen through session for the rest of us ^_^ I really was obsessed with it, that top image with the cover and Fitter Happier lyrics is the poster I used to have on my wall back in 1997  I was so obsessed with the imagery for the album too, it really felt quite unique and pretty meaningful at the time - albeit it may have just been me being 17 and being open to embrace anything a little pretentious *.*
March 21, 20232 yr Oh wow... what an album! It's still one of my favourite albums of all time, but in terms of the impact it had on me at the time, it's right at the top. Paranoid Android was a captivating single and it's still my favourite track, but the whole album is such a journey which expanded my horizons of the possibilities of guitar-based music. I shall look forward to the listenthrough!
March 21, 20232 yr This is a great choice. It's one of my favourite albums as well. I can host a listenthrough next week for this one and my next choice as a double bill. I think they will go quite well together. What day of the week would be best for you Dandy?
March 21, 20232 yr Incredible album, I was very late to it as I only discovered it through my lockdown album bucket list project, but it was one of my favourite discoveries, might as well just paste my review for it from the thread x Radiohead – OK Computer Seen as one of the greatest albums of all time, I was interested to check it out even if I’ve never been as much of a fan of them as I think I should, I like a fair few of their songs, but I do find Yorke's voice a bit hit and miss for me, but over the years, my initial impressions softened and I was much more interested to check out their work. The album has a very experimental sound, songs often change midway through and it always keeps you interested. Paranoid Android an excellent example of this. A six minute song with abstract lyrics split into three distinctive parts, it doesn’t make a lot of sense (I think they've admitted that much) but is interesting to analyse. Subterranean Homesick Alien is equally trippy and Exit Music is like a strange darker version of Romeo and Juliet. It's not short on more conventional indie-pop though, like Let Down and Karma Police, but they still sound good. The most heavy and social commentary dominated track is definitely Fitter, Happier which is 'sung' entirely with a computer Alexa-like voice preaching the ideal values of a human in a digital age, it's a sinister and strange track whose core message remains very relevant. Electioneering has more of a hard rock sound, and Climbing Up the Walls is a highlight because of its beautiful, string structure and epic structure and was inspired by Penderecki’s Victims of Hiroshima. There was one song I already knew and loved, No Surprises, which was a beautiful slow-building song with a great contrast between lyrics and calming instrumental. Lucky is a harsh and politically charged song, whereas the closer, The Tourist is much more restrained. Whew, I almost named the whole album, that was hard to condense the highlights. There are few lyrics throughout, it's more about atmosphere and being lost in time making it at truly cinematic experience and the core messages and relentless downbeat attitude still remain so relevant, I can't imagine how it would've sounded at the time especially as the mood was generally an upbeat one certainly politically in the wake of New Labour. It's an excellently composed piece of work and one of my favourites on the list easily. I am ashamed at my younger self for not giving them a chance x 9.5
March 22, 20232 yr Masterpiece is an understatement!! Funny how for a long long time I did prefer The Bends but now it like... no way OK Computer is much much better My #1 song will always be No surprises, along with Karma Police and Climbing Up the Walls but Exit Music, Paranoid Android, Lucky, Let Down etc are all masterpieces
March 22, 20232 yr My joint favourite album ever and an instant classic! My top tracks are album picks - Let Down and Subterranean Homesick Alien plus No Surprises as the best single. Amazing pick this month dandy*

March 23, 20232 yr Ooh nice graphics! Regarded as a massive 90's classic and revered by many. I've never heard it, oops! Prob ought to... All I can quote is how the singles did in my personal charts (i'm spreadsheet complete from late 1997 onwards, so no Paranoid Android till I get 1997 done. Karma Police 40, No Surprises 16 - so I liked them both but didn't top 10 major love them. There There was top 10 for me bizarrely, never hear that one quoted much... :o
March 24, 20232 yr Definitely looking forward to hearing this, will be a great time if it's even half as good as it's hyped up to be by everyone and their nan :kink: (I think I've heard 4 songs from this and I love at least 2 of those ('Exit Music (For A Film)' and 'No Surprises'), the other two being the other two singles which I don't remember well enough to comment on). Love the entirely extra effort put into the presentation of this thread too *.*
March 24, 20232 yr I can host a listenthrough for OK Computer and my own March album as a double bill on Tuesday evening next week if that's OK with everyone.
