April 30, 20232 yr I hope Freya Ridding album charts specially after seing crying on Instagram.I’m confused by that…..the album is #2 on iTunes & #8 on Apple Music - plus they have CDs, vinyl variants, bundles, signed editions etc available. Freya is getting a lot of support from the UK media right now, surely the album will chart (probably decently enough?).

May 1, 20232 yr Calvin’s already had 3 weeks at #1 (and likely a fourth), I don’t get why he’s doing CD singles on the cheap/at a loss.
May 1, 20232 yr Calvin’s already had 3 weeks at #1 (and likely a fourth), I don’t get why he’s doing CD singles on the cheap/at a loss. I'd imagine they were planned out and produced before the song was even released so they might as well sell them now to get more weeks at #1.
May 1, 20232 yr I don’t get why everyone bangs on about 99p singles being a loss etc., - music in general is a loss, the GP can stream for free 24/7, take up trial offers, use YT etc.,
May 1, 20232 yr We've been brainwashed into thinking a CD single now is just a cheap attempt to get a #1 single. King Calvin bucking the trend (*waits for the assault in the replies*)
May 1, 20232 yr music at a loss? you clearly don't buy vinyls :D The pricing on those is going to backfire badly on them! You're going to many shops closing down as sales are dropping - few can afford £45 odd for a double album, especially in a recession and the prices on RSD were for the most just taking the piss! Our local shop is closing at the end of this month after 6 years in business because it's just not feasible any more.

Tbh it's more to do with the way of music consumption, as the bigger and bigger chunk of sales comes from online stores and artists' own stores. Given that the vinyl sales keep rising, it is clearly a very profitable business at the moment.
May 1, 20232 yr Shame there’s no update this evening - I want to see what’s going on with Freya’s album

But just like cds in the 90s they should be trying to sell them at cheaper prices or the market will reduce!

May 1, 20232 yr music at a loss? you clearly don't buy vinyls :D I do buy vinyl - it’s my most purchased format, however my point was music can be consumed for free so everyone banging on about a 99p CD being a loss leader is a mute point, the fact that bulk CD production can be as low as 5-7p a disc for big companies with access to suppliers (for example I could order 1,000 CDs now for 78p each in card wallets so big companies will get them for much less with their 10k and 20k orders) most are probably breaking even with the deals they make on mass mail order delivery too.
May 1, 20232 yr Unless the Freya Ridings thing was a stunt to sell more records, get people to buy out of sympathy. But she did seem genuinely very upset in that video.
