May 2, 20232 yr Maybe she needs to chart well to keep her recording contract? I don't see another reason why she would be personally upset about it. Edited May 2, 20232 yr by Sour Candy
May 2, 20232 yr I think she's on an independent label, but maybe her distribution deal could be affected. But even if she'd been on a major, you'd think she'd be more than viable enough even so to be kept on. Her big hits have pretty high stream counts, she does well out of touring, and her sucess isn't confined just to the UK either. When the numbers come out I'll be amazed if her album isn't in the top ten. It would be pretty shocking if she couldn't sell 4.5k albums in the opening week, after a well received lead single and lots of promo. Edited May 2, 20232 yr by gooddelta

May 2, 20232 yr According to a reliable source on PoopJustice, Jessie Where "is currently at 2 and 5k behind Lottery Winners. She's only a handful of sales ahead of Nines, so she could be at 3/4 by Friday". :magic: Edited May 2, 20232 yr by Voodoo
May 2, 20232 yr Wow, I really didn't expect Lottery Winners, out of all of this week's releases, to be the No.1. Poor The National and it's a shame Freya isn't even part of the conversation.
May 2, 20232 yr if that is true then I hope lottery winners are just mega frontloaded and nines can overtake them for number one officially (jessie ware going number one would of course be preferable but unrealistic)
May 2, 20232 yr Maybe she needs to chart well to keep her recording contract? I don't see another reason why she would be personally upset about it. Because it's a measure of success isn't it. If you've had one successful album, spend 4 years on the second and be really proud of it and excited for your fans to hear it, and then it turns out nobody is interested, of course that's going to be upsetting. So hope she's been misinformed or there was a data issue.
May 2, 20232 yr Ugh. Lottery Winners have been so obnoxiously aggressive about this whole chart race and Jessie Ware in particular and sadly it looks like it's made wonders for them :/

May 2, 20232 yr The way she said it wont chart, i thought she meant miss out on the top100 all together. A top 30 album would be great
May 2, 20232 yr If the source is correct it would be very disappointing, for The Lottery Winners to be 5K clear of Jessie then more ahead of Nines is surprising. I expected Nines to have cleared 7K by now so they are probably at 12 or 13K if this is true
May 2, 20232 yr Depending if accurate and how much streaming data is missing, I could maybe see Nines overturning a 5-6k deficit, although Lottery Winners will probably push for extra sales to get them over the line. Very disappointing for The National not to be in the mix.
May 2, 20232 yr Yeah she was genuinely upset, there’s no way it was a stunt. It could hypothetically still be a stunt. Her managers could lie to her that she's not charting and then tell her to put a video on Instagram about it. I hope that's not the case, that would be an evil, evil thing to do. But you read about the stuff that's happened to people like Ke$ha and Britney Spears, so... But I see no way she could not be charting at all. So it's probably might be missing data due to bank holiday weekend or a mis-understanding/mis-communication or something like that.

Definitely not, this has been a genuine misunderstanding and she has just put in so much hard work and love into this album over the last four years it just all came out the day after release. I think todays positioning/charts will hopefully put a smile on her face!
May 2, 20232 yr If that source is true where are athe Lottery Winners getting there sales from? They are no where to be seen on streaming charts and on the iTunes and amazon charts I don't remember them being high up. Also I had a look at their social media page and they don't seem to have a big presence on there
May 2, 20232 yr Didn't Freya say something like she had been told she was "not in the running"? I wonder if someone told someone she wasn't in the running to top the charts and then by the time that someone told whoever needed to get to Freya it became "not in the running to chart". Just a thought. As everyone has said, it seems unlikely she wouldn't chart at all.

Also I had a look at their social media page and they don't seem to have a big presence on there They have multiple CDs and cassettes on their website for £5 - they added a new £5 CD variant the other day and it sold out immediately. They also have a pop up shop in their hometown where they spent 2 days signing albums etc., plus a ton of album launch shows with indie stores.
May 2, 20232 yr The record store website just emailed this - The Lottery Winners | Anxiety Replacement Therapy Limited Edition Duck Egg Vinyl LP + Exclusive Signed Print Currently sitting at No.1 in this week's album charts, don't miss your chance to secure the latest release from Manc indie-pop group The Lottery Winners' on limited edition 'duck egg' coloured vinyl, with signed prints - whilst stocks last.

I wonder why more artists don't do things like pop up shops. I would have thought that for people to buy the CD from their website their would be quite a bit more social media presence for them as that's where people would mostly find out about it. I'm Team Nines but good for them! Edited May 2, 20232 yr by platinum
May 2, 20232 yr Bands do but you need to have the crazy fans to buy multivariants Daughter did 2 pop ups the other week and missed the top 10 anyway :/
