I understand fans vocalising their support and excitement for their favourite country/act/song, though there's surely more appropriate times to do that, such as when Finland were announced as getting a 12, or when a high score was revealed for them prior to the announcement of which country got the 12. Go wild then by all means! Not when a 12 for Sweden/Loreen is announced...

Anyway I feel that pales in comparison to some of the comments I've seen about Loreen on social media... some of it is so horrible that I decided to stop reading pretty quickly. They're a bad reflection on Eurovision fans, but I know that's obviously not all fans and that there's so many more who won't behave like this.

I just hope Loreen isn't acutely aware of some of the online noise. As the winner she deserves to revel in this moment, to feel happy for herself and Sweden, and be proud of her accomplishments. I would be gutted for her if she gets any sense that the public en masse doesn't feel like she deserved it. Also, I really don't understand the viewpoint of "she won already, she shouldn't be taking part at all". Does anyone say that about the footballers of the country that wins the World Cup? That they shouldn't take part again because they've won already? Oh please.

We saw in the year of 'Statements' that Loreen doesn't have the status to coast by simply because she's Loreen - that song didn't even reach the Melodifestivalen final. I think exactly the same applies to this year. She didn't coast to victory. She landed on a song and performance that clearly clicked with the Swedish public, the juries and a huge amount of people watching the semis and final... and she put her absolute all into every single performance.

Amen to that. I also stopped reading social media comments, as they definitely gave the vibe that if you didn’t back Finland, you were a target. This is not ‘United by Music’ or anything close to the overall ethos of Eurovision

The "She already won once before" comments are so...

Like there was absolutely ZERO "takes" like this when Alexander Ryback returned? Or Lena returning the year AFTER she won? And people are rather celebratory of the fact and appreciating that Johnny Logan won twice? It's just an odd comment to make... like why now?

I haven't been on social media, except Buzzjack, so no idea what they've been saying. But if thrir behaviour in the stadium is anythin to go by, it'll have been very disrespectful, and all because some techno man came second. Okay? Ukraine came second with techno three years ago, but that was a woman who lost to male singers, thanks to thr jury, so I guess that's okay?
What I found confusing was the cheers for Finland and Sweden were both very loud, so why were there no chants for Sweden/Tattoo?

I also thought it was disrespectful - not just to Loreen but to all of the contestants

It was. It was VEEERY dismissive of every other act. Disgrsceful.

Sorry to those on here who are probably sick of us banging on about this, but it's a fairly big topic on ESC socials.

I've not experienced anything like it for a winner, personally? Unless it has and I've just glossed over it due to not caring about that winner or something, idk?

I wouldn't worry about Loreen, she's chill.
Loads of winners have wpn on jury points. Loads of second place finishes have been held back by juries. It's nothing new. It's a 50/50 split! Your song hss to appeal to both to win. Sam had a bigger jury vote than Loreen, but flopped in the public vote, yet everyone says he should have won. Loreen had a bigger public vote than him!
the jury agree the votes between themselves in different countries (not all) thats why most of them voted the same way, this isnt a jury but a group to push the commercial music companies that hold the artits they voted for.

Cha Cha Cha is a party song that was a huge moment live, but of course Tattoo will be a bigger hit, and Loreen will be just fine.

It was kind of like Netherlands vs. Norway in 2019 and obviously Arcade was the true winner in the long run despite not winning neither jury vote nor public vote.

Finland got a higher jury vote score than predicted because historically juries wouldn't vote for entries that. He wouldn't have been appreciated by Norway and Sweden if it wasn't a Nordic entry and wasn't a fan favourite to propell him up the betting odds. He would have been another Norway 2019 or Moldova 2022.

Understandably people are upset because Loreen underperformed in the public vote with the lowest % score since 2011 for a winner. Finland got 18 x 12pts and 9 x 10pts (including ROTW) while Loreen got 0 x 12pts and 8 x 10pts and people feel their paid votes didn't matter after finding out Finland couldn't have won even if he got Ukraine's public vote in 2022. In fact the lowest public vote score he got was 6pts.

Is that Loreen's fault? No but a handful of people decided the winner and none of them were going to not vote for Loreen. You didn't need a Crystal Ball to know she was going to win back in November. Loreen had no intention of returning until Christer Björkman from SVT (Melfest producer) asked her and by happy coincidence she was sent Tattoo... it was also one of the weakest Melfests ever... I wonder why? ;)

I think this has been the most toxic year ever for Eurovision in general - Wild Youth slated all through the contest, Mae’s vocals brought up on every social media post along with her views on the UK, general hatred towards Sweden, San Marino, Ireland, Poland etc.,

It’s been exhausting reading on social media - even not looking for it and just supporting your faves posts on social media it was hard not to see it, yes people are allowed views but there have been some really ugly, toxic and personal attacks on so many artists this year.

Eurovision Twitter is definitely a cesspit at the moment, I'm glad I was driving most of yesterday and missed most of the immediate hot takes.

'Don't hate the player, hate the game' comes into mind.

Loreen doesn't deserve this backlash for sending a jury friendly song, that is going to easily be the biggest hit of the year from the contest either way, so it's hardly unliked by the public.

I do agree that the jury needs a reform - more people in each jury, or maybe make it so they have less power than the televote - but it's hardly Loreen's fault.

I can't say I didn't see it coming though, despite Tattoo being my favourite I felt a weird sense of dread when the juries were all lavishing 12s on her because I could see Finland's public landslide coming from a mile off, and it was pretty clear the juries had already decided the winner themselves.

If anyone is at fault for how much the juries were biased towards Tattoo (and that is a very big IF) it's not Loreen or Sweden. The Eurovision community can be so toxic at times and I see that every time I go near twitter. Why do people have to be actively nasty? They do it to and about the artists and also to reactors and YouTubers and to other fans.

What is the point?

This is what needs discussing. Were all juries acting independently or was there any guidance from the EBU on which entry to vote for, either explicitly or implicitly?

In other glorious ESC news Love City Groove have finally given permission for their iconic 1995 entry to be added to streaming (plus their album too) :cheer:

Everyone pretending that Loreen is this unbeatable Eurovision behemoth but predictably forgetting that 'Statements' exists...

The conspiracy theories are inane.

The UK mid weeks today:

Mae Muller is at #6

Loreen is at #9

Alessandra is at #18

Käärijä #21

I can see one of (if not both) 'Unicorn' and 'Who The Hell Is Edgar?' joining by the end of the week... or at least I would hope so!
