I'd prefer if the jury's marking parameters were changed rather than dropping their points contribution from 50%. If feels a little less contrived that way.

I mean, Finland scored way more on jury vote than I was expecting. First half of the song is epic but his voice in the second half was not great (and I expected him to be marked down for that).

Saying that I am still confused as to how the Juries put a country like France soooo low

I am intrigued to know what they look for currently.

There’s a little extra context to that that’s missing because of course it is.

Seems to come from a line of questioning about how she felt about the competition between her and Käärijä basically.

And it’a not as if Käärijä isn’t getting the same questions

Thank you.
Talking of similar sounding songs

I think people are just trying anything to bring Sweden down. Like people said, it was the most popular pre-contest. It will be the most popular post-contest. It garnered millions of public votes and was respected by Juries.

I'm more impressed that a Finnish song by an unknown singer is dominating the Spotify charts almost as much as Loreen. Yesterday Global streams were only 148,267 difference and Loreen has much better post-contest PR and playlisting. It will be a contest fan favourite for sure.

When was the last time a song in 100% Finnish entered the UK chart?

Kaarija benefited from being high in the betting odds for months which created momentum. Other entries that stormed the televote in the past didn't have that and the song being popular in Norway and Sweden would have helped get their jury 12pts.

France was good but she wasn't the most charismatic singer and the performance was quite static.

Australia doing so well in the juries and Germany doing so badly was a surprise but you could argue the former was more accessible.

I am surprised too the juries actually gave it as many points as they did. But a lot still ranked him in the bottom 5 which is just blatantly ridiculous. Fan or not, on musicality that’s not a bottom 5 song.

Thank you.

Welcomes!!

It’s great to see Finnish get a moment in the spotlight.

The last three televote winners not being in English is so great for the contest as well I think. My hope is that the more of these non-English tracks that cut through and chart in the UK, the less scared our radio will be of giving non-English language tracks airtime in general

British radio really needs to move with the times. The public are properly into Eurovision now, it's huge on social media, the big songs are streaming and selling well.

Radio has adopted the UK entries over the last two years, which is brilliant, but it's now time to go a step further and get some of the hit entries on rotation. These are proven popular songs, so what is the issue?

^^ They need to love with the times in general, they are still playing songs from 12 months ago like they are the latest releases, and playlisting songs that the GP have little interest when looking at streaming numbers and the charts.

They’re just slow on the uptake and as we’re well aware, very cautious to acknowledge anything outside of the ~cool zeitgeist, hence the fear of anyone over 40 and anyone with a non-English language being placed on the C List and nothing more.

If they DO playlist anything, it’ll be the same. A token gesture, if you will. A week or two on the C List to give the impression of trying and caring.

From an article in The Telegraph

The BBC also revealed that Saturday's show was the most-watched grand final in history.

The live broadcast had an average of 9.9 million viewers and a peak of 11 million tuned in to watch Swedish pop superstar Loreen make history with her second win at the competition.

The previous ratings record was in 2011 when an average of 9.5 million people watched UK entry Blue compete with the song I Can.

Girlfriend had a breakdown lol

Looks like it was highly watched in a lot of places. I have seen both Germany and Slovenia post significantly increased ratings on my feed
