Amy Wadge hasn't been mentioned in the Popjustice thread, I can't find anything about her mentioning Padam Padam elsewhere  I'll take your word for it!

Insiders had a different story about this era... that Tension (mostly including work with Richard Stannard & Duck Blackwell) was pretty much considered complete, until Padam Padam came up for consideration... and that they loved it so much that the plans altered. That the lead single was meant to be Hold on to Now. Also explaining why Padam Padam is an outlier on the album and that there's no other work from Ina/Lostboy, because it was a late submission.

I heard this hun as well

I heard the album was finished but the fact this song came in Jan, it pushed everything back and thats why the album is out this year.

I was under the impression this song came Jan 2023 and was the last song added.

I heard the album was ready and then it suddenly wasnt ready and we even heard those rumblimgs earlier this year.

I also heard HOTN was meant to be first single.

Makes no sense that padam came Jan 2022 and was a late addition yet the album came out in sept 2023???

Just Carol Honey ❤️

Kylie literally says Padam Padam has been in her world for a year so thats at least Apr/May 2022 so being written in Jan 2022 makes sense.

Oh, in which interview does she say that?

Yeah I do remember watching an interview where she says this, can’t remember which one but it was one I shared.

Well I stand corrected! :o It totally goes against what the (supposed) insiders were saying pre-the release of Padam Padam. It would be interesting to see that interview, hopefully somebody remembers which one it is.

Kylie said in a very recent interview that Padam Padam was given to her by her A&R to play to see if she liked it - so it’s not a song she had involvement in, before deciding she wanted it and recorded the vocals for it.

If it was actually one of the earliest tracks found for the album, and Kylie/BMG etc have loved it for all this time, I wonder why she didn’t work on more tracks with Ina Wroldsen, Peter Rycroft and Lostboy? Unless they did but the results weren’t as fruitful.

Apparently most of the rest of the album is more along the lines of the “Disco” sound and not in keeping with Padam Padam. That’s according to some fans who were at listening parties or have listened to the clips. That’s why it seemed to make more sense that Padam Padam was a late addition to the album, but that’s been debunked, seemingly. It seems curious to have a lead single that is apparently an outlier for the album it’s promoting.

(Also I know this discussion would be more relevant in the Tension topic, oops :kink: )

The increase per 24 hours is only 170k a day still but yes that jump is nice 21 to 6. Other than about 8 days ago when it got a big boost to 260-280k views a day it has been dropping a bit.in viewers so i wonder why it is up to 6, unless thats UK ranking and it has been picking up viewers

Also worth noting again that Peggy Gou remix of CGYOOMY got 105k streams on Spotify last night as they seek out other tunes after her current smash Nanana. it was getting 35-45k streams a day before

There was an interview with Ina on Radio 4 where she said her and Lostboy wrote the song on Jan 22, with Kylie in mind. Think the interview was about three weeks ago. Kylie since confirmed this in that Capital Radio interview. She said she recorded her own vocals on it in Jan 22, then recorded loads of further tracks, but never forgot Padam.

I also have in my head that Lostboy also gave an interview where he says the inspiration was various Kylie tracks. Might be making this up…it’s been a Padamic overload the last 7 weeks post the initial leak ha ha ha.

Think that was Instagram saying her songs have been an inspiration and that he had studied during his life or something like that?

Honestly I'm very surprised about it, it seemed so unlikely to me, that I was confident it had to be this year... but I was wrong, so I'm sorry to a few of you!

So interesting that a song can reach an artist and then is left for well over a year. Maybe it's still true that Hold on to Now was in the running for lead single, even with them having Padam Padam... but then they decided Padam was the one after all?

Padam Padam” — Spotify charts (24/6):

🇮🇪 IRE: #17 (+5) — +23,877 streams *new peak*

🇬🇧 UK: #28 (-3) — +162,533 streams

🇦🇺 AUS: #50 (+6) — +63,955 streams *new peak*

I think Sundays Spotify is going to full of Lewis, Lizzo, Artic, Elton when we get the update on Monday. It maybe the reason why a remix was not released this week, Glastonbury

Thanks, that rings a bell.

Yes Jay it is weird as I think we all thought PP was a late curveball but it certainly wasn’t. Kept under wraps for so long!

I really feel like it’s going to be Top 5 in Ireland - it’s shooting up everywhere!
