May 29, 20232 yr ^but i don't understand, it says: Release Date: 09/06/2023 This item will ship from June 2nd 2023. Neither does anybody else - so the CDs will either impact next week or the week after
May 29, 20232 yr Good they can pick what week to add them ala Lewis/Harry Difficult to predict where the Taylor songs will finish, they are doing so differently across platforms like Karma was #1 on Spotify, around #50 on Apple and nowhere to be found on Amazon :o
May 29, 20232 yr It's all starting to look really positive for kylie going top 20 hopefully the momentum keeps up all week. Hopefully the general public get as obsessed as the rest of us haha. It deserves it.

The remix is awful though, what was Taylor thinking with that one.
May 29, 20232 yr karma was #1 combined on spotify on sat, down to #8 combined yesterday. if it stabilises i reckon it could hold in the top 10 officially but i sadly think top 20 is a better target. hopefully all 3 (karma, hits different and sotb) can all get top 20 officially this week, though i think sotb might end up lower, and maybe anti-hero will even overtake and stay above it
May 29, 20232 yr Some big drops for the likes of David and Lewis from last week, I reckon the Taylor songs will drop a fair bit by Friday though
May 29, 20232 yr I'm no fan of 'Daylight' but what a nightmare batch of songs coming to replace it in the top 4 :drama: I guess 'Karma' is bound to drop off but Switch Disco getting to #2 and matching the original Robert Miles peak really wouldn't be much better of an outcome, both among the worst songs in the chart right now. The Jazzy song is ok but in no way does it deserve to be anywhere near this high either (I could be easily convinced Jazzy is not even a real person and is just the label testing the waters with marketing an AI generated 'artist' :smoke:) I say burn the lot of them down and have Rema go to #2 for the lolz. I'll even take 'As It Was' re-entering the top 3 frankly. x Thank god for Calvin holding the fort at #1 at least, and it is nice to see 'Snow On The Beach' hopefully on course for a top 40 re-entry at least (although inb4 it ends up still dropping behind 'Anti-Hero' because we can't have nice things). Kylie getting a legit streaming hit looking to climb in its second week is really quite astonishing! Not heard the song yet so here's hoping it's at least a little better than these other songs I'm moaning about :kink:
May 29, 20232 yr I actually think the problem is this. No one is listening to the same songs anymore, people are more varied listening with streaming giving that option. People's tastes have changed and there isn't a high demand for 'popular' music anymore. Hence why the popular songs are sticking around for longer and sales for the higher end are falling.

This - more people are streaming and as shown streaming figures are at an all time high for the singles charts, however as a very heavy streamer I hardly listen to anything in the Top 40, the single charts are now mainly just a reflection of streaming playlists that people play passively rather than actually seeking out the song or the artist.
May 29, 20232 yr We say this time and time again but surely streaming apps have the ability by now to distinguish between passive playlist plays and selected plays, and report as such?
May 29, 20232 yr We say this time and time again but surely streaming apps have the ability by now to distinguish between passive playlist plays and selected plays, and report as such? How do you define passive, though? What if someone puts Hot Hits UK on and listens to the first 10 songs purposely? Would only the first song count as "active" because it's selected while the others are "passive"? It's too blurred a concept for it to have any real meaning.
May 29, 20232 yr We say this time and time again but surely streaming apps have the ability by now to distinguish between passive playlist plays and selected plays, and report as such? Even if they can they probably don’t care - if they are getting no push back from the OCC and big labels who are seemingly happy with songs like ‘As It Was’ spending a year in the charts then so be it from their viewpoint?
May 29, 20232 yr 'As It Was' is no doubt having a pretty big rise in non playlist driven streams right now because of Harry's tour. Be careful what you wish for. x (it's never going to happen anyway)

Would only the first song count as "active" because it's selected while the others are "passive"? It's too blurred a concept for it to have any real meaning. I would determine active streams as streams 1. Listened from an album / EP / single 2. Listened from your own created playlist or library 3. Listened from adding the track to the queue. We can think how to implement repeated plays by pressing “backward” and maybe something else, but the idea is there.
May 29, 20232 yr It's not the problem with curated playlists, if anything it's user-generated ones, they're the ones that are much less likely to ever remove songs. Really what you're seeing here is an inevitable equilibrium. If you collate everyone's listening habits, there'll be a lot of erratic movement in all sorts of directions, but on the whole it'll feel like a sluggish mass. People aren't necessarily boring, it's just that we define boring through this collected top of the chart that makes up a smaller and smaller percentage of all streams. (also why should the chart care how someone comes across a song? A stream is a stream. The album chart doesn't exclude birthday/christmas presents that are assumed to not actually be wanted/listened to, nor should the single chart exclude streams that are assumed to not actually be wanted)

Playlists should not count at all, it’s basically the same and switching the radio on and listening to whatever they play. Should be only streamed from an album or a single on the artists page.
May 29, 20232 yr Playlists should not count at all, it’s basically the same and switching the radio on and listening to whatever they play. Should be only streamed from an album or a single on the artists page. I will always maintain that there's quite a big difference though. Though you control the station you listen to, you can't control what's played on the radio. If I wanted to hear a song by Boy In Space on the radio, it's not gonna happen no matter how hard I search for a station. Playlists are muuuuuch more choice-based. I listen via playlists most of the time, but I specifically choose the songs I play, or I listen from the top knowing I've curated the order. Some playlists I'll shuffle, but I chose the songs that went on there. With something like Hot Hits UK, on the rare occasion I'll use a playlist like that, I can skip a song I don't want to hear. It's not the same as radio at all in my view and that's why the OCC count streaming and not airplay.

Combined around #11 (176,776).
