Bronski Beat and Oakey/Moroder would both make my 5 too but will leave them out as suggested x

Bananarama - Robert De Niro's Waiting

Nik Kershaw - The Riddle

Tina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)

Bruce Springsteen - Dancing In The Dark

Bob Marley & The Wailers - One Love / People Get Ready

John Gosling, a former member of The Kinks (in the 70s so after their peak but he did play on 'Lola') has passed away. Their other high charting hit while he was in the band was 'Apeman', don't know the song but maybe worth an RIP slot?

Bonus 3-5 peaking songs chosen:

Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (#3, 1984)

Ultravox - Dancing With Tears In My Eyes (#3, 1984)

Nik Kershaw - The Riddle (#3, 1984)

When Doves Cry (#4, 1984)

Bruce Springsteen - Dancing In The Dark (#4, 1985)

Bob Marley and The Wailers - One Love / People Get Ready (#5, 1984)

Tears For Fears - Shout (#4, 1985)

Giorgio Moroder And Philip Oakey - Together In Electric Dreams (#3, 1984)

Also played:

Euythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) [poll winner as best #2 played last week]

Travis Scott (feat. Bad Bunny and The Weeknd) - K-Pop [current #1 album track]

The Kinks - Apeman [RIP John Gosling]

Laura Branigan - Self Control [Jamelia slot / honorary 9th bonus song]

I completely forgot about this today… a shame as that is a generally great set of songs

I enjoyed 'Apeman' (particularly the gorilla in the video x) so glad I threw it in as a last minute suggestion - the chorus did sound a bit familiar so maybe I have heard it before.

Best discoveries of the day (at least songs that I didn't know very well before, I may have heard them in passing) for me were Howard Jones, King and Marillion. Gotta love that we had songs from Queen, King and Prince all in the same week.

Though the best song played today was of course 'Together In Electric Dreams' (and, equally predictably, the best of the actual #2 hits was 'Take On Me').

That Neil song was quite a thing - I actually thought the instrumental was really good, the vocals not so much.

Another possible RIP slot this week for Rodriguez? He didn't have any hit singles but he had 2 top 40 albums after being the subject of a documentary about his quite fascinating life story ('Searching For Sugar Man'). The titular 'Sugar Man' is his most streamed song (and was also entered to BJSC in remixed form a couple of years ago).

(and maybe a play of 'Cha Cha Slide' too, not sure if there are any deeper DJ Casper cuts that would be worth playing x)

I'll include those Rodriguez and Robbie Robertson suggestions. I think the #1 session when Cha Cha Slide came up was one of the lowest attended (about 4 of us), so happy to play that again in preference to the Oops Upside Your Head cover.

We'll have 41 new #2s on Sunday, including 4 double A-sides, going from early 1986 to the end of 1988. There are 123 songs to choose from for this week's bonuses:
