Of course Madonna fans are getting their pants in a twist because Taylor is closing in on Madonna's tally of UK chart-topping albums. A lot of her fans hate seeing anyone doing better than her. Let's face it, the same people would soon change their tune if Madonna announced that she was rerecording a bunch of her albums. No amount of moaning is going to change what Taylor has accomplished, critically or commercially.

It would still feel very strange seeing someone other than Madonna as the female with the most #1s list but I presume her singles record should remain intact longer than her albums one.

Factoring in her collabs, Rihanna has nine number-one singles, four behind Madonna. I think it's safe to assume Rihanna would have surpassed Madonna by now had she not taken a long break from music. She'll surpass Madonna at some point. She's already beaten her on the Hot 100. By the way, if people aren't willing to include Rihanna's collabs, then we can discount Madonna's current feature on The Weeknd's track, Madonna's first top 20 entry for 14 years. Just saying.

I’m a Taylor fan (I’ve actually bought all her “owned” albums and I also have physical copies of 1989 and reputation too and I’ll be buying the Taylor’s Version of those so I do like to see others do well. I think any non chart follower would assume Madonna would have the most #1s by a female on a chart whether it’s single or album so I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch to say it would feel strange for someone else to break that record

I’m also in support of the re-records as well I’ve made a lot of complimentary posts in regards to that maybe my comment re Madonna having the record sounded a bit salty but I didn’t intend it to land that way

Well seemingly all Madonna needs to do is re-release some old albums with a different catalogue number (and assume enough people are interested) and she can sail back into pole position without even having to go to the effort of going into the studio. Would you be up in arms about it if she did?

I would!

As I said, this isn't about my opinion on an artist. So yes, I'd be up in arms.

It's one thing where a re-release beats its original peak (like Kylie's Impossible Princess) but a different catalogue # or a re-recording being treated as a separate release is a chart travesty.

To be fair, I'm not sure Impossible Princess is the best example here. Its 2022 entry is listed separately, it was even released under a different title in 1998!

There you go, Madonna should take a leaf out of Kylie's book and just re-release her old albums with new titles to take back the record from Taylor

Fair enough...but I'm going by Wikipedia album discography for example where the original 1997 release has been updated to #5 peak, I don't see it as 2 separate entries unlike Taylor's where the Taylor versions are listed as separate.

Those Speak Now numbers! I’m shocked at how well it’s outselling Red TV minus the signed CDs
Imagine the potential numbers that would have been had she done signed CD's? :cheeseblock:
I'm glad people agree with me. I have no problem with Taylor Swift having 100 number one albums as long as they are new albums, not re recordings. Madonna set records to be broken, I just want it to be done fairly.

I still don't understand why this is being discussed now when Speak Now would be a new #1 album regardless

Because Taylor is about to equal Madonna’s #1 album record and one of those #1s (Red TV) was a re-record of a #1 (Red)

But like I said before. If Abba re-record ABBA GOLD with new vocals and the total was added to the original ABBA GOLD album. They would probably overtake Queen’s Greatest Hits as the biggest selling album of all time. Would that be deemed fair?

I've been waiting for a signed cd drop to happen. It hasn't so I'm going to buy the CD now. Amazing figures for SN with no signed CDs. Of course it's totally justified as it is her best album ;)

She'll for sure drop some signed ones as soon as I press purchase.

Taylor still needs 3 more #1s after this album to beat Madonna
Taylor Swift seems to only release her albums in quiet weeks, I remember her album was released the same week as Adele in America so she put it back a few weeks as she knew she had no chance against Adele, which she didn't.
