He could, but saying this ignores a big part of the context behind Taylor's move. She'd tried to buy her masters off her old label, later bought by Scooter Braun who had worked against Taylor's career multiple times. It's a win-win for Taylor. It's not just re-recording because she doesn't own the masters - for any artist of her stature, it'd surely be far easier to buy the masters in a typical situation.

Taylor Swift moved back her album in the US as Adele was releasing hers and who sold more: Adele, so clearly she can't beat anyone as she knew. And not once did I say I hate her, I even said I stream anti hero loads. I want a level playing field in the charts, not re-recordings classed as new albums when they are not. It was a VERY clode battlr though. Taylor sold 96% of Adele's flop album :o

If you compare both latest studio albums, Midnights sold more in the US than 30 did This..... Not even just a little bit more, almost double... 1.578m vs 839k If we're going down this route, Folklore (a complete surprise album announced less than 24 hours before release) also sold more than 30 did in its first week which was an album with 6 years of anticipation behind it and heavily promoted for months prior (Folklore 846k vs 30 839k) Let's not even go there saying Taylor has to release in "quiet weeks", please :P :P :P

July 12, 20233 yr I don't think anyone is questioning Taylor's intention on re-recording her albums. All that some of us are saying is - as it's a re-recording with a few bonus songs, it's technically not a separate album and shouldn't be treated as one.
July 12, 20233 yr I’m not a fan of the Speak Now re-recordings, it just sounds like a karaoke version of the original album to me. It was always my favourite Taylor album so I might be overly critical but production wise it’s just not up to par, and her current voice is too mature for a lot of those songs to work… I think her debut album will be a struggle to get right

Agree...so much can happen in 3-4 weeks these days...no guarantee she'll get to #1. And I was seriously thinking this was a shoe-in for #1 on week 1 itself given her profile.

It would also be VERY embarrassing for her to stall at no.2, so she will never release vs Taylor, who is bigger.

I don't think how she handled the whole Vegas cancellation thing helped her in the slightest though, and I think she could be seeing some rather diminishing returns next time around.

I think Adele would've crossed 1 million in the US had the album been more "streaming friendly" and they went a bit more crazy with format options. 12 tracks, with half of them being 5 minutes or longer, hurt her on the streaming front. Had she released a 15 track album with most songs being 3-4 minutes, would've done much better in streaming. I also wonder how much the pandemic was effecting the potential sales as well? Both of Taylor's Folklore & Evermore would've been 1 million+ opening weeks if it wasn't for the pandemicI feel. Even in late 2021 there was still issues with supply chains etc which may have slightly dulled Adele's opening a bit. The Vegas situation definitely destroyed the era though. They were likely going to push another single or two but the era just went dead silent and they then released the video for "I Drink Wine" many months later and let the era fizzle out. Her Vegas residency has been massively successful though and is going through its second leg. So I feel like the situation has been made up for? I'm interested to see how Adele's next era goes and whether the label may try to influence the album to be a bit more streaming friendly. People thought Taylor was in diminishing returned with Lover/Folklore/Evermore but she has been on the up and up and hit a new peak with Midnights.
